Flynn Rider Wanted Poster Shirt

January 9, 2013 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

My boys love the movie Tangled which is great because I love it too! I wanted some fun boy themed Disney shirts for our Disneyland trip and thought the Flynn Rider wanted poster would be perfect. I cannot tell you how many compliments we got from other Disney guests as well as cast members. The Flynn Rider shirts were by far the most popular out of the 13 I made (I know, I have a problem) for our our trip.

SUPPLIES:
  • T-shirt
  • Cardboard
  • Silhouette
  • Contact Paper
  • Transfer Tape
  • Black Fabric Ink
  • Elmer’s Blue Painters Marker
  • Iron
INSTRUCTIONS:
The shirt is actually easier than you might think. Follow the tutorial here to create a stencil of the image. Since you are creating a stencil and not using heat transfer DO NOT flip it horizontally. Just cut the image as is once it is traced.
I wanted to save some money and used contact paper for the stencil rather than the stencil vinyl. It totally worked! Just be careful because the contact paper is very thin, even thinner than regular vinyl so adjust cut settings accordingly.
Once you have the stencil of the Tangled wanted poster cut, transfer to your shirt using transfer tape to keep everything aligned correctly. Place a piece of cardboard inside the shirt to prevent the ink from bleeding. Then, blot the black fabric ink over the stencil with a foam brush. Color in the royal crest with the blue painter’s marker.

Once the ink dries, remove the stencil and admire the awesomeness of your new Flynn Rider shirt.

Even Rapunzel herself was a big fan of the shirt!

Wednesdays through January

Make a Water Bottle

January 2, 2013 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

With the New Year upon us and health on our minds one thing we are doing is drinking more water. There are a few things that make kids drink more water and making it fun is key. Kids love choices so we let them choose their own bottle and what they wanted on it to make a water bottle just for them.

Lincoln needed easy open, Aiden wanted the one with a snack cup in the bottom, I wanted a bottle with a filter and dad of course wanted whatever bottle we already had that was free.
Our bottles are Disney themed because we made them for our trip to Disneyland. These were heaven sent on long unseasonably hot days last fall.
Each person picked a mickey mouse silhouette and then I cut them out of vinyl with my craft cutter. We also added our names so they would be even more personalized. The kids loved having their own bottle and we loved having a drink on hand to give them any time the crankies set in.
Another great tip is to buy a huge carabiner. They sell them in the baby section, but they are cheaper in the sports/camping section. They are perfect for hooking all the water bottles together to hang from a stroller or backpack, which is great because then they also ward off people who may mistake your stroller for theirs.

Pirate Mickey

December 12, 2012 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

I had the perfect idea for a Disneyland shirt for boys, it would be Mickey wearing a pirate bandana. The perfect combination of Disney and boy. I was so excited to get started and even more excited when I saw my adorable friend Amy from Positively Splendid had the same idea and put it together with a tutorial! Awesome! That made it super easy for me!

PIRATE MICKEY SHIRTS

Pirate Mickey applique tutorial and template here.
The applique process for the pirate Mickey was not as overwhelming as I imagined. I absolutely adore how they turned out and also have to give a huge thanks to my friend Tami for doing the sewing for me since my machine was under the weather that week!

Disney Ad Shirts

November 28, 2012 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

If you have been following me for a while you know that I have a thing for making Disney shirts for my kiddos. There is just something about going to Disneyland knowing that no other kids will have the same shirts. I saw these fun vintage looking ads and knew they had to be part of our Disneyland ensemble.

SUPPLIES:
  • T-shirt
  • Cardboard
  • Silhouette
  • Contact Paper
  • Transfer Tape
  • Silhouette Fabric Ink
  • Iron
INSTRUCTIONS:

They are actually quite simple to make. Follow the tutorial here to create a stencil of the image in the silhouette software. Since you are creating a stencil and not using heat transfer do not flip it horizontally. Just cut the image as is once it is traced to your liking.
I wanted to save some money and decided to try using contact paper for the stencil rather than the stencil vinyl. It totally worked! Just be careful because the contact paper is very thin, even thinner than regular vinyl so cut accordingly.
Once you have the stencil cut, transfer to your shirt using transfer tape to keep everything aligned correctly. Place a piece of cardboard inside the shirt to prevent bleeding. Then, with a foam brush blot over the stencil with black fabric ink.

Once the ink dries, remove the stencil and bask in your success.

Iron the design to set the ink and now it’s ready to wear!
You’re kids are one of a kind, why shouldn’t their shirts be?

These have been washed several times and are holding up wonderfully!
