Get Well Soon Care Package

September 12, 2013 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

Post sponsored by ARM & HAMMER.

With fall comes leaves, pumpkins, crisp air and cold and allergy season. Anyone else get allergies with the changing seasons and wake up with dry or congested nose and throat? Well, I thought it would be fun to put together a little care package you can give to allergy sufferers or that friend/family member who always seems to have a cold to wish them well and help them feel just a little better.

Isn’t it adorable? Who wouldn’t love getting a little “feel good” and “get well soon” in a box?

I gathered my favorite things that seem to help me feel better when I’m not feeling so hot and bundled them up in an adorable storage tote I found at TJMaxx so they can re-use it. Items included are:
  • cozy blanket
  • portable humidifier
  • giant mug
  • citrus and spice wassail
  • tissues
  • Simply Salineโ„ข Nasal Relief

Ok, so the first few are pretty self explanatory, but let me just that last one I discovered recently. Simply Salineโ„ข Nasal Relief is a drug-free spray made with water and salt. It is great for those times when you wake up with your nose feeling so dry. It moisturizes and flushes dust and irritants from nasal passages. It would also be great for travelling to dry climates. My poor nephew always gets bloody noses every time he visits us here in the desert.

What’s your comfort item(s) when you have allergies or a cold? What would you put in a Get Well Soon Care Package?

DIY Faux Wood Picture Frame

September 10, 2013 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

Hello again Friends! It’s Aly from Entirely Eventful Day. I hope you love Fall like I love Fall! Today I am sharing a project perfect for Fall, or anytime of the year. It’s a faux reclaimed wood picture frame. We all know how “in” reclaimed wood is right now. But I don’t have time to go out and reclaim wood, do you? Didn’t think so. That’s why I created this little beauty for you.
If you would like to fill your DIY wood picture frame with this cute I “leaf” Fall printable, come on over to my blog and download it!
Start with any ol’ picture frame. Mine was painted red from this Valentine project.
You will also need wood printed wrapping paper, Mod Podge (I used gloss), scissors, and a brush.
The first thing I did was apply some scrap pieces to the corner. I wanted a miter cut look and it was apparent that I wasn’t going to be able to get the perfect in the corner. So I cheated. It worked perfectly, couldn’t tell at all.
Then I lined up my paper, making sure I had the right amount to fold into the inside, and cut the angle.
Follow the directions on the Mod Podge bottle to apply the paper. You want to apply it both under and over the paper.
When it was time to do another corner, I simply made sure that the miter cuts overlapped and my red frame didn’t show.
I found this particular wood print paper at Hobby Lobby.
I hope this project starts your Fall off right. I can’t wait for apple cider and falling leaves!

The Best Banana Bread Recipe

September 9, 2013 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

No, really. It’s the best. I didn’t even like banana bread until I found this recipe in a favorite things swap a few years ago and now I love it! It is moist and has the perfect balance of sweetness and nuttiness. Trust me, you will never need another banana bread recipe.

Thanks to Collins Kilgore for sharing the recipe with me and without further adeiu I’ll share it with you!

Banana Bread

1 cup mashed bananas (very ripe)
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup softened butter
1 1/3 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two loaf pans.
2. Combine mashed banana and sour cream. Set aside. I a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time. Now stir in vanilla and banana mixture.
3. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Stir in to banana mixture.
4. If you want, add 1 cup pecans at this time.
5. Spread evenly in to pans. Bake for 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on rack.

At least one loaf of ours is gone before it even has a chance to cool. But that’s ok because then it melts the butter just perfectly. ๐Ÿ˜‰
