Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Smashed Peas and Carrots

March 26, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Hi all! I am super duper excited to be here for the day…I just adore Michelle’s blog, how much cool stuff can you find on here, LOVE it!!
My name is Maggie and I am the momma behind the curtain at the blog, Smashed Peas and Carrots, and my Etsy shop! That’s me below.

I am a momma to two little ones (one boy and one girl) and one on the way…I’m due in July (woo hoo, half-way done!)…and I’m married to an amazing man that let’s me go crazy in the crafts department, how lucky am I that he let me take over our dining room! I only have to clean it up for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter (and by looking at the calendar I better get cleaning!) My blog is about my life as a momma and the adventures and mishaps that happen when you have kids. I also have loads of DIY craft and sewing tutorials, yummy family friendly recipes, and easy projects to do with your little ones!

Michelle’s One Minute Interview:

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
WOW! There are so many to choose from…hmmm. I think my favorite tool is probably my rotary cutter! Weird, right? I use it ALL the time for cutting fabric, ribbon, felt, paper, the list goes on. It is 10,000 times better than a pair of scissors in my opinion. Everyone should have one, make that two…you gotta get different sizes!

What is your favorite Easter tradition?
Oh my, I just love me an Easter Egg Hunt! They are sooo fun! I am loving having kids just so I can do them again and YAY that my kids are old enough to participate 🙂

Who would you have play the lead in a movie about your life story? Why?
My gosh, this one is hard, I never ever thought about it! I guess I would say Jennifer Lopez…please don’t cringe! It’s just that she is hispanic and so am I…my Dad is from Peru (random fact alert!!) So, I suppose she is most fitting. Please don’t all leave now!

Oh, that was fun! What a good idea Michelle,
I’m one of those silly people that love playing games!

Ok, so here’s a little peek at some fun things you’ll find on my blog:

I adore pretty-ing up my front door so I have lots of front door bling tutorials on my blog. Two of my favorites are the Fabric Rose Wreath and the Clothesline Wreath. I just made a Lettered Ribbon Door Hanging for Easter which I am totally lovin‘ these days, it would look great with the word ‘Spring’ too!

I have a tutorial for these super stylin‘ Glazed Fabric Button Rings I made out of fabric scraps. I just love how they are so customizable to the person or outfit. Plus, the glaze keeps the fabric waterproof so they won’t get all icky and wonky after washing your hands all day long…a momma’s dream come true…ok, maybe just mine 🙂

I’m currently having a love affair with my Crockpot, oooh I just can’t get enough of it! I have tons of recipes which may or may not involve the crockpot on my blog. My family especially enjoyed this one for Banana Bread…in a crockpot, how cool is that!?!

I also have a big thing for making felt foods, I think they are the coolest kids’ toys out there. I have lots of tutorials on my blog for making your own. Some fun ones are the felt Cinnamon Roll and Blueberry Muffin, seen above in my Breakfast Basket.

Ok, man that was so fun! Thanks so much Michelle for letting me takeover your blog for the day!! Please blog hop, skip and jump over to Smashed Peas and Carrots and say ‘hi’ I always love to meet new friends 🙂 I also have an amazing giveaway going on right now for some beautiful jewelry…come by and check it out!!

Um, I need to make some of those rings, like, now! I had no idea they were waterproof!! Just makes me love em more! Thanks Maggie for swappin‘ it up with me today!

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Fireflies and Jellybeans

March 12, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Hello A Little Tipsy Readers! I am so excited to be here with you all today! Michelle has an AMAZING Blog full of fun projects, great reviews and awesome tips! And her All The Married Ladies video rocks! : ) Let me introduce myself!

I am Fawnda from Fireflies and Jellybeans a little DIY blog that I co-author with my best friend Jeannine.
I am a Wife to an AMAZING man and a mom to one son (2 years old) who we adopted from Korea. Our Son is the light of out life!
I am a stay-at-home mom and I work VERY part time as a Math tutor. I love all things crafty and love to share what I know!

Michelle Asked me some questions to help you all get to know me a little better:

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
This is a hard one… I really like a lot of crafting tools… But I would probably have to say my sewing machine. I started using it again about a year ago and I have not stopped! I even like to sew on cards that I make!

What is your favorite scent?
Vanilla… I love it… especially body spray from Victoria Secret!

Where did your blog name Fireflies and Jellybeans come from?
Me and my best friend started this blog (almost a year ago) and our names are Fawnda and Jeannine. So, we thought it would be cool to use the two letters from our first names for our blog name. At first we wanted to have them be crafty words, but not too many crafty words start with F or J so, we decided to go whimsical and fun! Jeannine actually came up with the name!

We do lots of fun things at Fireflies and Jellybeans! On Thursdays we get together and show off our stuff at the Show off Your Stuff Party!

I am also hosting a Felt-House-Along. I am showing you how I made a felt play house a week at time! Be sure to check it out!

We also have lots of DIY projects from sewing to home deco. We are thrifty mommas so we are often times reusing/re-purposing things and finding cheap ways to craft!
Today I have a great T-shirt refashion! I looked at the Anthropologie’s site and I noticed that a lot of their shirts have flowers around the necks. Here are a few examples:

I love the flower look but not the price tag! So I set out to make mine own!

Here is what I used:
  • Two t-shirts from my Goodwill pile
  • A scissors
  • Needle and thread

Here is how you can make one:

1.) Cut 2 inch strips to make the flowers. (I used ten flowers on my shirt. so I cut out ten strips) I used my brown shirt, so it was jersey material, but you can use any scrap material you have.

2.) Tie a knot at the end of your strip

3. Wrap the “tail” around the knot and continue to wrap the strip around the knot.

4. Continue wrapping, every so often I would twist my fabric to give it a dimension.

5. Once you are all the way around fold the end to the back.

6. Use a Straight pin to hold it in place

7. Use your needle and thread to hand sew some stitches on the back to keep the flowers shape.

{I rolled all my flowers first and then I sewed them all at once. This is something you can do while watching TV or listening to music.}

8. Once all the flowers are done, play around with how you would like them to be arranged.

Once you decide on an arrangement, hand sew the flowers on.

I am thinking of adding some leaves to these flowers too.

Here are some of my other T-shirt Refashions:
It would be so fun to have you all stop by Fireflies and Jellybeans! We love to get to know new people!

Thanks Michelle for letting me invade your blog today! It was so FUN!

Isn’t she great?! I totally need to do a little work on some of my old t-shirts!
Thanks for swappin’ it up Fawnda!

Hi There! I am so excited to be here on Ameroonie Designs! I work with Amy in Point of View and got to meet this fun loving gal in person at Creative Estates. Funny how you have to travel to another state to meet someone who lives 30 minutes away. 😉

Michelle, from A Little Tipsy here, taking the wheel for the day!

Nope not drunk (what a relief you will not be taking your tour with a drunk driver), I may or may not be a bit clumsy though.

A little about me, I am a SAHM with one crazy 3 year old boy, a 5 month old baby boy, and a big geek for a husband. I love keeping busy and sharing all my projects and adventures whether they be home decor, holiday projects, activities for the kiddos, or discovering how to get permanent marker off granite counter tops. Turn to me for projects you can do during nap time for less money than lunch out.

So, enough about me…here are a few of my favorite projects as of late.

Phone Book Wreath

Ruching Re-fashion in 10 Minutes

Flower Monogram Frame
secret ingredient…packing tape

Free Printable Behavior Charts for your kiddos (girl & boy version)

I started a link up party for projects that cost $5 or less. I would love to have you come link up and share your projects on Wednesdays!

Well, I guess that about wraps things up. Thanks to Amy for swappin’ it up and thanks to you for letting me be your tour guide today. Watch your step on the way out and don’t forget to come visit soon!
