Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Fireflies and Jellybeans

March 12, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Hello A Little Tipsy Readers! I am so excited to be here with you all today! Michelle has an AMAZING Blog full of fun projects, great reviews and awesome tips! And her All The Married Ladies video rocks! : ) Let me introduce myself!

I am Fawnda from Fireflies and Jellybeans a little DIY blog that I co-author with my best friend Jeannine.
I am a Wife to an AMAZING man and a mom to one son (2 years old) who we adopted from Korea. Our Son is the light of out life!
I am a stay-at-home mom and I work VERY part time as a Math tutor. I love all things crafty and love to share what I know!

Michelle Asked me some questions to help you all get to know me a little better:

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
This is a hard one… I really like a lot of crafting tools… But I would probably have to say my sewing machine. I started using it again about a year ago and I have not stopped! I even like to sew on cards that I make!

What is your favorite scent?
Vanilla… I love it… especially body spray from Victoria Secret!

Where did your blog name Fireflies and Jellybeans come from?
Me and my best friend started this blog (almost a year ago) and our names are Fawnda and Jeannine. So, we thought it would be cool to use the two letters from our first names for our blog name. At first we wanted to have them be crafty words, but not too many crafty words start with F or J so, we decided to go whimsical and fun! Jeannine actually came up with the name!

We do lots of fun things at Fireflies and Jellybeans! On Thursdays we get together and show off our stuff at the Show off Your Stuff Party!

I am also hosting a Felt-House-Along. I am showing you how I made a felt play house a week at time! Be sure to check it out!

We also have lots of DIY projects from sewing to home deco. We are thrifty mommas so we are often times reusing/re-purposing things and finding cheap ways to craft!
Today I have a great T-shirt refashion! I looked at the Anthropologie’s site and I noticed that a lot of their shirts have flowers around the necks. Here are a few examples:

I love the flower look but not the price tag! So I set out to make mine own!

Here is what I used:
  • Two t-shirts from my Goodwill pile
  • A scissors
  • Needle and thread

Here is how you can make one:

1.) Cut 2 inch strips to make the flowers. (I used ten flowers on my shirt. so I cut out ten strips) I used my brown shirt, so it was jersey material, but you can use any scrap material you have.

2.) Tie a knot at the end of your strip

3. Wrap the “tail” around the knot and continue to wrap the strip around the knot.

4. Continue wrapping, every so often I would twist my fabric to give it a dimension.

5. Once you are all the way around fold the end to the back.

6. Use a Straight pin to hold it in place

7. Use your needle and thread to hand sew some stitches on the back to keep the flowers shape.

{I rolled all my flowers first and then I sewed them all at once. This is something you can do while watching TV or listening to music.}

8. Once all the flowers are done, play around with how you would like them to be arranged.

Once you decide on an arrangement, hand sew the flowers on.

I am thinking of adding some leaves to these flowers too.

Here are some of my other T-shirt Refashions:
It would be so fun to have you all stop by Fireflies and Jellybeans! We love to get to know new people!

Thanks Michelle for letting me invade your blog today! It was so FUN!
