Venting

A while back, I was having a real problem with my little guy pulling up the vent cover and throwing things and/or climbing in. It was driving me nuts until one day the light bulb turned on. DUH. Nothing a few glue dots can’t fix. Six glue dots healed my insanity just a little. You have no idea how much joy this pick of him gives me. (Evil laugh, sorry kiddo your plot has been foiled!)

Now for a little anecdote on why I remembered this tip. Last night at a friend’s house she was sharing a story of how her friend’s little boy had a fear of doing poopies in the potty. (I apologize if i get any of the details wrong, I have a terrible memory.) They had an arrangement where he would tell her if he went. So one day, he runs in to tell her he did it all by himself. Problem, there is no evidence in the toilet. So she frantically runs around the house looking for the escape evidence only to find it in the vent hole. Mmmm. Thank goodness the heat did not turn on that day!

Easter Eggstravaganza

I know, I know…more Easter. Hey, it is coming up. Don’t you want to have something festive? C’mon, make all your neighbors jealous. 🙂

First off, an idea from I swiped from Cindi that I saw on Tip Junkie. This adorable egg wreath is so cute and fairly easy to make. Ok, it just took a little time and patience. I had a little family night and made them with my Mom and Sis.

Now for the full tutorial I’m sending you over to Cindi because she has great step by step instructions. For my two cents, I would say cutting out the cardboard circles was the hardest part. Here are a few photos I took of the process.

Thank goodness my mom the professional (ok, maybe that is a little exaggeration) bow maker was there.

One thing we did differently with the hanger was fold the pipe cleaner in half and glue it between the two pieces of cardboard for added strength to hold the wreath up.

Here we are all finished!!

Now, I had some supplies left over and could not bear to let them go to waste so I made this little flower arrangement. Cost: For me nothing. It is all leftovers or stuff I already had.

Supplies:
Pipe Cleaners
Plastic Eggs
Easter Grass
Ribbon
Vase

1. Start by bending 3 pipe cleaners in to figure 8s. I used all one color, but alternating colors could be cute too.

2. Then, lay them over each other to make a flower shape and twist around them with a green pipe cleaner for a stem.

3. Then, twist another pipe cleaner the perpendicular to the green (green vertical, middle color in this case purple horizontal) to give added stability and make the flower middles.

4. Then, make the middles by rolling the pipe cleaner up into a swirl.
5. Next, fold the green in half and wind it around itself to make it more stable.
6. Finally, fill the vase by alternating Easter grass and plastic eggs and arrange the flowers by placing them in the top. I also added a bow of some leftover ribbon to the vase.

Last, but not least, I found this cute quilted place mat at Big Lots for $3, added some ribbon, and hung it up. I love finding cheap items that make it look like I did something fancy!

Feature Friday-Monaca

It’s time for Feature Friday again and this time I am featuring my husband’s cousin MoNaCa from Las Vegas.

I am loving this first bit of genius. She ran in to the same problem I had over over New Years, not being able to find a sled. We both went to 3+ stores to no avail. She was a bit more creative than me and picked up this big plastic storage container at Big Lots and off they went.
I thought I would throw this one in since last weekend my parents got 12 inches and we got 6 inches, but good luck finding a sled in a store in March. Since I saw this idea I have been noticing lots of things around the house that would work. What about a laundry basket or baby bathtub? Those remind me of riding a bike with training wheels, the sides would keep your kid from falling off (or should I say out).

These next two ideas are from her daughters bday party. Aren’t these cupcake cones adorable and super fun to eat?

After the conecakes, she had a little bit of batter left over, so she put it in a bread pan and make this mini cell phone cake for her to have at home. Good call! (I am so punny!)

Diaper Station Disaster

I am a little embarrassed to show this next picture, but we are all friends, right? This blog is to help those like me and how can I help if I am not completely honest with the mess that I am starting with? Besides, if we all pretend to be perfect we all just make each other feel worse for not being so. So, here we go…


Scary, I know. Why do you think it got moved to priority ONE! Everyone has a different changing table set up. I am lucky enough to have this awesome hand me down dresser with this huge compartment to the side to store everything. Problem is, huge compartment sometimes equals huge mess. So here is what I did.

1. Take everything out.
2. Remove stuff I don’t need in there. (I had rings to the curtain bar, vapor bath, milk storage bags, etc that I either don’t use anymore or can be stored elsewhere.) Be honest with yourself and purge what does not belong.
3. I had lots of random stuff (travel size soap, teething remedies, thermometers) that I only use on occasion. I corralled these in to extra wipes containers I had lying around.

4. I love those scented diaper disposal bags (get 100 for $1 at Dollar tree), but they can sure make a mess when they sneak out of the box. I put them in a travel wipes container for easy dispensing (only to find they have a piece on the back you rip out to do something similar, duh.)
5. Then put everything back in with the things used the most on the top and in the front. (I even ran the binkies through the dishwasher and put them in their containers since we are using them only for sleeping time now. I have 3 more on top of the dresser for easy access. )

6. I refilled the diaper crate (Walmart $2 or so). It fits 2 rows of size 3 or smaller perfectly.

Ta Da! Now I think I will sit and enjoy some Cadbury mini eggs while the little guy naps.
