I have known today’s feature for 28 years. That makes me sound terribly old. She is my sis Jenni

and she keeps amazing me with the things she comes up with. She is all sorts of fun (she is a yellow for those who know what that means) and is the life of the party. Which is fitting since today is the last day of The Ultimate Blog Party 2009!

Let’s start this party girl’s feature with her remake of my DIY wall art. She took it to a whole new level by making them circles instead of squares and personalized them with her daughters name in wood letters. So cute!!
They have a flair for things girly at their house. Take a look at these adorable skirts that she made for her little girl who insists on wearing a skirt every day (don’t worry she made 8, one for everyday of the week and an extra for laundry day). How fun are they? She got most of the fabric from her Mother-in-law’s leftovers. That is my kind of price! She also made one out of jersey knit for a light summer skirt for herself.
Need a fun inside activity for the kiddos since winter popped back in to our lives this week? Try this funtastic doll house and barnyard made from boxes. Creativity at its best my friends. Give all those microscopic toys a home.

Navajo Taco Recipe for Dummies

Have you ever had your hubby turn to you after dinner and ask to have the same thing the next night?! I hadn’t until the other night when I decided to try to make Navajo Tacos after having them at our friends house a few weeks ago. We actually had them two nights in a row and loved them just as much the second night! I do not claim that this is a healthy dinner, but it is fast and tasty!

Here’s what I did for our little family (2 adults, one tiny):

Ingredients:
Ground Beef 1/2 lb
Black beans 1/2 can
Corn 1/2 can
Taco seasoning
Salsa about 1/2 C
Scone dough thawed (I used frozen from Macey’s deli, but you could make it from a mix too)
Oil (I used canola)
Cheddar cheese 1/2 C shredded
Lettuce a few leaves ripped up
Tomatoes 2 diced

Optional toppers:
Guacamole (I used one avocado and a few dashes of garlic salt and onion powder)
Sour cream

Brown ground beef and drain. Return to pan and add black beans, corn, salsa and taco seasoning to taste. Roll out scone dough and cut into large squares. Fry in oil until golden brown on both sides. Top scone with cheese and then a scoop of meat mixture. Add lettuce, tomato, and dollops (that one is for you Jen!) of sour cream and guacamole if you wish. Enjoy!

I can’t believe I never thought of having Navajo Tacos before. We always love to get them at the fair.

Feature Friday-Whitney

Today’s Feature Friday is my wonderful friend Whitney! I am so excited to be able to share a few of her ideas with you and believe me it was hard to choose. She does so many cute things!

For those of you swinging over from the party, Here is an adorable idea for a birthday party favor. Her son Rocco was turning 5 and she personalized candy wrappers. So sweet. (I am workin’ it up the punny scale.)
Or how about a little budget spring decor…
How fantastic is this little DIY arrangement made with carnations and a sugar shaker. Ingenious! See the tutorial here. This is one even clumsy old me could do. Flower arranging has never been my strong suit. This is like paint by numbers. 🙂

Almost done…not only does Whitney provide me with the best boy hand me downs on the planet (80% of my little guys wardrobe), but she also took the most adorable pics of my guy a few months ago that I just have to share. She is so talented!

Pirate Party

It all started with a treasure chest…made of rice crispy treats. It involved 3 boxes of cereal, 2 1/2 bags of mallows, a stick of butter, a trip to Reams, and a lot of patience. It turned out really cute though.

1. Make all the batches of rice crispy treats, pack them super tight and let them set in some tupperwares. Be sure to shape the top of one flat and the top of the other curved like the lid of a chest.

2. Then put them together. I used bamboo BBQ skewers to secure the lid.

3. Next frost the treats with chocolate making the “wood slat” lines with the tip of a spoon.
4. Add licorice strings and Reese’s pieces to make it look more like treasure. (You could use m&m’s if you are worried about the peanut butter, but I was not patient enough to pick out the yellow and orange. My guy got a hold of a peanut butter candy during Halloween so we knew he was not allergic.)

I ordered pirate party favors for the kids from Oriental trading and found the pirate bags at the Dollar store. Each kid got a pirate rubber ducky, two finger puppets and some stickers to color.

We had every one dress up and we had a lot of fun! The kids played pin the pirate ship on the treasure map X and played in the new playroom.

Leave it to my family to dress up for the occasion! They cut up old clothes, used jar lids as fake earrings and broke out more stripes than I had ever seen. They looked great!
