Easter Eggsitement

I love holidays. They give you something fun to look forward to. Here are a couple of ideas I have used for Easter Decor.

This first one is sooo simple, but fun and tasty. My little sis got these tiny candy jars (I think she said from Ikea) for her wedding and did not want them so I inherited them. I fill them with candy in the colors of the nearest holiday and put them on top of my fridge for a little festive joy. You could embellish the lids if you were feeling super motivated.

Plus, then I have a yummy treat on hand and it is in a place where I determine the distribution for the kiddo. I used Reese’s Eggs, Cadbury Mini Eggs, and Robin Eggs. Your mouth is watering isn’t it?

Today I was featured on Tip Junkie for an Easter basket idea I did on my personal blog a while ago. See the Basketball hoop basket idea here. On that post it also shows the Easter Garland that inspired my next project.

I think they used some type of sewing or embroidery string, but I don’t sew, so I used fishing line.
What you’ll need:
Fishing line
Plastic eggs with holes pre-punched (I got mine at the dollar store of course)
Mechanical pencil or toothpick

All you have to do is thread the line through the eggs without getting tangled. Sounds simple right? Ya, as long as you unwind the line as you go. I took it all off my husband’s pole (with his permission) in one long string. That made it difficult to keep untangled. I used the pencil to make sure the holes were completely clear to make the threading easier.

It would be super cute on a banister with some ribbons, as you can see here. But, with my little guy that would not last 5 minutes so I put mine on top of my cabinets in my kitchen.

Idea Binder

Now that my little guy is getting bigger and having regular naps (well, usually, right now he is sick and unpredictable) I have had a lot of motivation in taking on new projects and goals. There are so many things flying through my head every day of things I would like to accomplish that it is hard to keep track of them all.

Enter the idea binder…

This is something I have been meaning to do for a while and just had not got around to. Finally, I had so many loose things flying around in my “Mom’s to do box” that I made it priority one.
My overflowing Mom box. Another good idea to keep on a kitchen counter to collect all those random to dos until you have time to put them in their proper space: mail, handouts, to do lists, bills, coupons, etc. (I got mine in the Target dollar section)

I started with my lovely $1 mauve binder from DI, some dividers from the target dollar section, and all my random leftover scrapbook stuff (everyone has some). Total cost-$2 🙂

Step 1-Fancy up your binder (This took me forever. I takes me too long to decide on a page which is why I never scrapbook anymore. I think digital is the way to go for me.)

Step 2-Rummage through your stuff and decide on categories for the tabs. I did:

  • To Do (yard care, banking, things that take time but may be not so fun)
  • Projects (home decor ideas, food storage, things that take time but are fun)
  • Health & Fitness (I have a chart system I will hopefully share later)
  • Parenting (handouts form the Pediatrician and tips I read)
  • Kid Friendly (activities for the little ones)

I plan to add a few more later (freezer meals, vacation ideas, Date/romantic ideas, etc). These items that did not fit a category yet are in the front pocket until I collect enough to actually make another category needed.

I also put a thank you note tracker and birthday card tracker in the front to keep track of those. I got them from Family fun magazine online.


Now you can keep track of all your fabulous ideas in one easy to manage spot!

I also saw a really cute idea for an idea rolodex. That was my plan at first until I realized that I am lazy and just wanted to stick my printouts in a binder and not have to make everything cutesy.

Feature Friday-Amy

Welcome to Feature Friday! Each week I will be featuring a guest tipper (mainly my friends and family whose ideas I see and must share). This week is my wonderful sister Amy and her idea for organizing moving day!

We went to help her pack boxes and she had an ingenious color coding system. There were different colored sticky notes for each room. We would write the room at the top of the sticky note and then draw a line under which we would write the contents of the box.

We taped these notes to the sides of the boxes to be easily visible in stacks.

This way when the boxes arrive at the new house People won’t even have to read the labels they can just take them to the room according to color. This also eliminates having to have someone stand at the door directing where the boxes go so everyone can do the lifting and make it that much faster!

How to Freeze Meat

I am all about saving on groceries and so often I buy in bulk. Hamburger, for instance, is much cheaper if you buy it in a 5 Lb. chub on sale. My family of 3 (more like 2.5) obviously does not consume 5 lb of meat at a time, so I pack and freeze it. I am super impatient when it comes to defrosting especially because it is usually being done around 5 pm when I am rushing to get dinner on the table. My hubby came up with a great idea to make it faster and it makes it easy to store in an organized stack.

How to Freeze Meat


I date a quart freezer bag and put about a pound of the meat in. Then, seal the bag 3/4 of the way.

Then, squish.

Then, roll with a rolling pin. I find this is an easy way to get the air out.

Seal the rest of the way. Then stack in the freezer.

Having the meat squished flat makes it defrost in a couple of minutes in some warm water. I love it!

Another good way to save a buck on hamburger is buying the 73% lean instead of the 90%. You can make it have about the same fat content as the leaner with 3 steps after browning. First, drain. Second, rinse with hot water. Third, pat dry with a paper towel.

I also like to buy my chicken in bulk. I buy it fresh so I can trim the fat off all at once and have it just ready to use. Then I pack it in dated quart size bags, two breasts to a bag and then fold the bag in half so they are each in a separate pouch and won’t stick together. Then, you can use one or both and they defrost faster!
