Michaels sent me a gift card and a list of Pinterest inspired projects with a challenge to make my own holiday DIY project. I saw this glitter candle and knew it would translate in to a great gift idea for my little guy’s preschool teacher. I chose to do a winter spin on the glitter candle gift so she can keep it out through January and it will keep her classroom looking cute and smelling great!
ITEMS NEEDED:
- Ashland Jar Candle
- Recollections Glass Glitter
- Mod Podge Matte
- Foam Brush
- Paper Plate
- Celebrate It Satin Ribbon (Pewter)
- Wood Snowflake Ornament
- Scissors
Pour a good amount of glitter on to a paper plate and spread to cover the bottom. I love how this glass glitter is almost like tiny mosaic tiles and really shines!
Using a foam brush, paint one side of the jar with a coat of mod podge. Roll that side of the candle in the glitter and let it dry. Repeat for the other side. Tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar, thread the ornament on to the ribbon and tie a bow to secure.
This is such a simple project with a big impact! We’ll be gifting this glitter candle to his teacher with a note that says, “Being in your class is ‘snow’ much fun!”
You can join the party at your local Michaels store on November 15th from 1-4 p.m. to create your own top holiday Pinterest craft! It should be a lot of fun!

Hello I was inquiring about the Glitter candle gift idea #made with Michaels posted 11/24/14. Wanted to make this with my granddaughter for her mom but having trouble finding the recollections glitter glass used it was blue with a snowflake hanging from it the Michaels near us doesn’t carry it n tried looking on their web site n didn’t c it any suggestions
Michelle Barneck says
Hi Christie-
You can use any glass glitter. If you search glass glitter in google it will give you some options.
Danielle says
I’m making this right now and choose to just use the extra fine glitter from recollections. Will it stick and should I use a sealer over it?
Michelle Barneck says
I did not use a sealer over the glass slitter because it would cover up the sparkle.

Beautiful! Love this idea and wanted to do as a craft at a birthday party. Can this be completed in one sitting or do I need to only do one side of the Mason jar and then let dry before doing the other side? Or do u think we could mod podge the whole thing and coat w/glitter? Thank u!
Michelle Barneck says
Yes, you can do this all in one sitting. You can do one side at a time so you have somewhere to hold and so the mod podge does not dry out before you do the other side, but it comes together pretty quickly.

What if the candle has a sticker on the front? Do you just peel it off or leave it on? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blank candle before.
Alyssa says
Nevermind, was able to get it off without all the pieces sticking to the glass. Would any type of Mod podge work?
