You know me, I’m all about the treats! And if they have a holiday theme, even better! I think I need some of that peppermint whipped cream stat! Have you had peppermint ice cream with hot fudge? It is a holiday tradition at my house and it is delish!

DIY Christmas Gifts

December 4, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 8 Comments

Christmas is upon us and that means we need to be thinking about gifts for our neighbors and friends. For Feature Friday today I decided to put together a little round up of DIY Christmas gifts that won’t break the bank. So let’s get to it! Here are some of my favorite friend/teacher/neighbor gift finds. (And by favorite I mean easy too!)

Festive Hand Sanitizers from Sister’s Stuff
Can’t wait until my little guy is in school so I can give his teachers cute things like this!

S’more Clay Ornaments
from Little Birdie Secrets
Someone can make me one of these for my tree. 😉 Check out the tutorial, they are totally doable!

Free Brownies from How Does She
I think this is hilarious! Make your own darn treats! Plus, if you are like me you are frightened to eat much of the homemade things that come through the door at Christmas time anyway. It is very sweet to get a plate of goodies that the kids helped with, but I have seen kids make treats and I do not want to eat them afterward. I’m just sayin‘.

Pop Top Treats from How Does She
How fun is this?! I remember my mom canned one of each of our presents one year. It was really fun to have to open it with a can opener!

Snowman Soup from Lori’s Country Creations
I LOVE cocoa. (My hubs despises all my mugs.) What could be better than cocoa with all this fun stuff in it!

Christmas Potpourri from Creative Holiday Gift Ideas
My mom makes this and lets it simmer and I just want to stand over it, close my eyes and breathe it in all day. It smells so delicious!

Well, hopefully you are all set now for DIY Christmas gifts and can get going on your neighbor gifts so you can get them out early and enjoy the rest of the month! Happy holidays!

Nativity Play

December 2, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Our church youth group wanted to do a Nativity Play for a local Retirement home. We wanted to do something a bit more than just throw a few carols together at the last minute, but knew we only had time for one practice.

I came up with a Nativity Play using the Nativity story from Luke 2 and Matthew 2 and inserting carols for each character. They are songs from the hymn book so the kids will already be familiar with them. Each narration will be accompanied by the song that is coming up next so that we can go straight from the narration into the song.

Here is the script of the nativity play if anyone is interested. It includes which songs go where and who will be singing which verses. I cut out a lot of verses to hopefully keep it short.Photobucket

Make Your Own Christmas Advent Calendar

November 27, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

It is almost that time! That time to start counting down the days to my absolute favorite day of the year! I am so excited to make a Christmas advent calendar, but there are so many adorable options! How will I ever choose which fantastic advent calendar I want to hang on my wall? Well, today for Feature Friday, I will be featuring some of my favorite options. Check out all of these DIY advent calendars from these wonderful ladies and see my dilemma.

Christmas Advent Wall Boxes from Adventures in Crafting

Mini Muffin Tin Advent Calendar from Sumo’s Sweet Stuff

Framed Box Advent from the Painter Family (similar to the box one above, but easily movable)

Cookie Sheet Advent
found through Tip Junkie

Santa’s Beard Advent Calendar from Make and Takes (just add cotton balls)

The image “http://crafts.kaboose.com/img/santapic.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Online Advent Calendar from Optimal Print-technically meant to count down the days to order your Christmas cards, but it has loads of cute printable games and activities, like memory, word searches and song jumbles.

However do I choose? It would be obnoxious to do multiple. Ugh. Decisions, Decisions.

(I pulled out the Christmas music today. I couldn’t help myself. After visiting Disneyland all dressed for Christmas it has been hard to come back to the real non-Christmasy world that is my fall decorated house. Thank goodness it is almost time to break open the bins and release Christmas out of it’s plastic prison.)
