Turkey Cookies

November 11, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 8 Comments

This has been a family Thanksgiving tradition of mine for a long time. These turkey cookies are really fun to make and the little ones love to help! They only take a few minutes to make, but have a BIG wow factor! Let’s get going with the Thanksgiving Turkey Cookie Tutorial!

Ingredients needed for Turkey Cookies:
Ginger snaps
Chocolate Frosting
Candy Corns (get them soon, they are hard to find closer to Thanksgiving!)
Hershey Kisses (I used the almond ones just because I like them better)
Chocolate Chips
Red Hots

Tools:
Cutting board
Knives (one to trim cookies, one to spread frosting)

I like to put all the ingredients in bowls for easy access.

1. First, trim a ginger snap with a knife to make the tail. Make sure the cut is not angled or your tail will fall over.

2. Spread frosting on cookie piece and add five candy corns for feathers.

3. Add some frosting to the flat edge of the cookie and stand it up on the edge of another ginger snap. (Tail)

4. Frost the bottom of a kiss and put it on the cookie in front of the tail. (Body) This will help hold up the tail while the frosting sets.

5. Dip the edge of a chocolate chip in frosting and place it near the top of the Hershey’s Kiss. (Head) Then, dip a red hot in frosting and place it below the chocolate chip on the kiss. (Gobble)

There you have it! One fantastic little turkey cookie!
Now, gobble til you wobble!

We love to use these as a Thanksgiving activity for the kids
while all the food is cooking.

Turkey cookies are a fun little treat for neighbors or would be really cute set at
each place on the Thanksgiving table!

Happy Halloween-M&M bag costume

October 31, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 17 Comments

I whipped up this little M&M bag costume when I decided at the last minute that it would be fun to have our little one match us. I made it by blowing up a picture of an M&M bag and modge podge/taping it to a black plastic bag that I trimmed to look like the edge of an M&M bag. I even photoshopped the image to say Net wt. 27 lbs.

I also covered a baseball cap with plastic bag and glued M&Ms to it to look like the “bag” spilled. I had a basketball Easter basket that perfectly matched the orange in the peanut butter M&Ms bag so we threw that in the mix too.

Oh, and I got our M&M costumes for $3 each at a garage sale. Score!

Feature Friday-Craftaholics Anonymous

October 30, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

I had so much fun with the blog swap last week, that I was so excited when Linda contacted me to swap with her. She has such cute ideas, I’m sure you will find something you love! And don’t forget to swing over to her blog to see me sharing some of my all time favorite projects. Now for our Feature Friday…

—————————————————————————————

Hi there! I’m Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous and I’m stoked to be swapping with Michelle today. Love her blog!!

Michelle had a quick interview for me:
What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?

Definitely my fabric measuring tape!! I’m always measuring something round or curved and this flexible measuring tape works perfectly to get an accurate measurement.
What is the funniest costume you ever had for Halloween?
I grew up in Northern Utah where it snows almost every Halloween. And every year, except one, I was a Princess and wore a dress. But after my mom was done putting snow pants, thermals, a hat and gloves on, I sure didn’t look much like a dainty Princess any more!! 🙂

What is your favorite day of the week?
Tuesday. Because it means I got past Monday!!

For this swap, Michelle and I decided to share a few of our fav posts. This makes me giddy because I get to share one of my all time fav makeovers….an old Crib Spring as part of my Staircase Transformation!!

And here’s the Before pics:

Another fav project of mine is my Mod Podged Handbag. I gave my $1 thrift store bag a facelift with some pretty paper:

My Witch Broom made with around the house supplies like a dowel, spray paint, and one of those free paint stir sticks.

I’m addicted to wearing cute hair accessories! Here’s my fav right now, my Burlap Flower clip:
Old tennis balls transformed into a Simple Fall Accent using twine.
And right now I am currently giving away one of these cute Pumpkin Tassels I made:

Be sure to stop by and enter to win!!
Thanks for letting me visit today, Michelle! Happy Friday everyone!

———————————————————————————

Great ideas Linda! You are now entered in to the Hall of Fame as Tipster of the week!
