Kids Valentine Hand Print Heart Art Project

February 10, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 17 Comments

You know how I love a good hand print art project. So for Valentine’s of course we needed a heart. This Valentine Hand Print Heart Art Project is so easy and turns out really cute! All you need is some paper and a little red paint.

(not the first time he’s been caught red handed, ha ha)

Just paint your hand red and place with fingers close together on your paper. Then repeat with the other hand overlapping the fingers to make a heart.

We made one with mom and son’s hands, though his heart turned out WAY cuter than mine. I think mine looks like some monster that is going to eat his.

But, I hung it up anyway of course.

We made some heart hand prints to send to family…

and then I just let him go to town and make a whole bunch of valentines all by himself for his cousins. I even let him use the fancy scissors (his first time using any scissors) and he was pretty darn good at it!

Candy Heart Love Banner

February 9, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 5 Comments

I really wanted to do something with conversation hearts, but was way to lazy to actually go out and buy anything so I made this Candy Heart Love Banner using only what I already had. It was really simple and did not take me long at all. It is a fun craft for the kids to help with too.

Supplies needed:

  • 12×12 sheet of card stock or thick paper
  • Scissors
  • Conversation hearts
  • Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks
  • Twine
  • Ribbon (optional)

1. Cut for triangles out of the paper. I tried to make mine fit really close when cutting them out so I could use the big scraps later.

2. Trace the letters on the triangles in pencil so you have a guide to glue the hearts on.
3. Hot glue the conversation hearts over the letters. I put a dot of glue on each heart and placed them individually.

4. Cut five hearts out of the scraps of paper remaining and decorate by gluing on candy hearts. I put some on the outside and some in the middle. Lay out the banner alternating hearts with triangles.
5. Lay out your twine next to the banner so you can make sure you have enough. Remember to leave enough to tie the end and hang it. Then, hot glue the triangles and hearts to the twine. I put the twine in front on the top of the triangles and in back of the hearts.

6. Embellish with ribbon if desired. I tied a knot of ribbon between each item.
7. I hung mind by tying each end to a nail. I made a little bow around the nail to make it cuter.

Show a Little Love: Valentine Gift Ideas

February 1, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

I like to give the hubs something that I made for Valentine’s Day. He always complains about how Valentine’s Day is so commercialized, so I like to give him something with a little more meaning along with his store bought gift. Here are a couple of ideas: last year I gave him a deck of cards with 52 Reasons Why I Love You. This year I am giving him this personalized Rubik’s cube, so hopefully he is not reading this! 🙂

This “52 Reasons Why I Love You” card deck gift was a big success last year! It was really fun to make, but took me a bit longer to make than I anticipated so leave yourself a good amount of time and get started early! Here are some examples of some of my reasons…

I wrapped it up in a festive bag with some crinkle paper and a ribbon. He LOVED it and asked if we could hang it somewhere for everyone to see. I saw the card deck idea here.

This year’s idea came from Love Actually. When I saw this Personalized Photo Rubik’s Cube I knew it would be perfect. Let’s face it, the hubs is a geek and loves a normal Rubik’s cube, so how could he not love one plastered with photos of us even more! I was ecstatic when I found a Rubik’s cube at the dollar store and snatched it up for this project.

I wanted to use really candid pics that showed personality. I put one of our engagement pics on the top and a pic from the sand on our Honeymoon in Puerto Rico on the bottom. Then I circled the cube with pics from our bridals (Thanksgiving Point), wedding day (Salt Lake LDS temple), and reception (The Lodge in Perry, UT).

I love how it turned out and hope he loves it too!
