Father’s Day Art Project and Gift Wrap Idea

June 18, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 5 Comments

My little one wanted to paint today, so I turned it into a Father’s Day Art Project. It turned out so cute that the art project then turned in to the gift wrap for our Father’s and Grandfather’s Day Presents.

I just drew the outline of a tie on a big sheet of white paper and let him have at it with the finger paint. We did one color and let it dry for a bit, then added a second color.

Once he was done I traced the outline with a Sharpie to make it stand out and cut the tie out. We wrote a little note on the one being sent in the mail and attached the other two to blue gift bags.

Happy Father’s Day!!

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Crap I’ve Made

June 18, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 7 Comments

Hey there! It’s Char from Crap I’ve Made.

I’m not much of a blog swapper, but Michelle asked so nicely (ā€œPretty please with Cold Stone and a Gary Coleman on top.ā€ — direct quote from her email) that I couldn’t resist. Plus, she knows where I live.

I never know quite what to say for these things because I’m a big old dork. The gist of it is that I’m a SAHM mom to 4 (1 girl then 3 boys). I craft because it’s cheaper than therapy and you don’t have to wear shoes. I’m a sew-er at heart, but I also love spray paint and Mod Podge and power tools.

I have a super, super, SUPER awesome giveaway starting Monday. Seriously awesome. Like a $500+ value. Did I mention it was awesome? Here’s a hint. Come see me to enter, if for no other reason.

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
I have to go with my trusty sewing machine. I love that sucker. I also love FabriTac (glue guns and I have a sordid past), spray paint (Krylon or Rustoleum, please), and have developed a recent obsession with freezer paper (you can read about it here, here, here, here, and here or watch me talk about it on TV here). See? Obsessed.

What is your favorite summer treat?
Does Diet Coke count? Because I’m pretty sure if you took some blood right now, it’d be carbonated.

What is one of your goals you hope to accomplish soon?
Hmmmm. Can you tell Michelle is a YW leader or what??? Most of my goals right now revolve around getting the right services for my sweet 4 year old, Campbell, who was just diagnosed with Asperger’s. I’d also (always) love to drop a few pounds, quit swearing, be more organized, have more patience….

Thanks for having me, Michelle….now hand over the Cold Stone!

See why we became insta-friends at CBC?! She makes me laugh all day and she is like famous being on TV and stuff, which is cool. So, a big thanks to Char for swappin’ against her will. šŸ˜‰ This calls for a chocolate dipped waffle bowl.

Wedding Gift Wrap Idea

June 17, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 15 Comments

It’s summer and wedding season is in full swing! Ever thought of using part of the wedding present as the wrapping? I love to do this. I choose a group of items from their registry that coordinate and include an item to hold them all. Then, I am spending money on things they will actually use rather than something that will be destroyed and thrown away. I of course doll it up with tissue and ribbon, but the actual gift container is re-usable.

Below I did a bathroom theme and included a shower curtain, a pack of wash cloths and wrapped them in a garbage can.

I have also done a bucket full of some of my favorite cleaning supplies. Everyone needs them and let’s face it what new couple wants to spend their wedding gift cash on Lysol wipes and toilet cleaner?!

I love how the tissue paper kinda looks like suds.

Other fun ideas are:

  • Laundry basket with towels, hangers, laundry soap
  • Mixing bowl with measuring cups, spoons, hot pads
  • Pot with Pasta Scoop, Strainer, Garlic press

He or She & Undertease

June 16, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 11 Comments

I was really excited when I was contacted by Undertease to review their new light weight Suzy-Q t-shirt line. Being pregnant this summer, I am all about being comfortable and staying cool while hopefully looking cute.

I have tried a few different brands of the layering shirt and have been pretty loyal to one. I had never tried Undertease and I can confidently say I am impressed so far. I received a Suzy-Q shirt in white and a signature shirt in Riviera.

If you want to know the nitty gritty about what sets Undertease apart you can read about their fabric and construction, but what I know is they seem to be a lot more breathable than my aforementioned favorite. I was noticeably cooler wearing these T’s which is a big bonus for those like me who love to layer. They were nice and fitted without feeling clingy and I am in love with the riviera color!! I also like that the edges aren’t left with the surged or merrow stitch look. They are finished, but not in a bulky way.

Signature Cap Sleeve in Riviera, Suzy-Q in White

The Suzy-Q line is said to be thinner, (and thus comes with a smaller price tag $18 instead of the signature $30) but I did not see a huge difference. They were both nicely light weight, but hey with a smaller price tag, I say stock up on the Suzy-Q while they are around.

I just wish they had a crew neck cap sleeve option with a slightly higher neckline all around to go with some of my other pieces.

Now, I mentioned a while ago that I needed a new belly pic,
so here I am in all my glory at 19 weeks.

And who’s in there? Well, it’s a HE. I continue to be outnumbered.
And wish us luck in coming up with another boy name we can agree on.
