Fabric Heart

January 17, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 16 Comments

I am in the Valentine mood. I have a whole bunch of fun things to share over the next few days, but let’s start with one you can do with stuff you probably have sitting around.

Fabric Heart

Supplies needed:
  • cardboard
  • scissors
  • fabric scraps
  • hot glue gun
  • ribbon
1. Draw a big heart on your cardboard with a smaller heart inside.
2. Cut it out.

3. Get your scraps. Mine were cut into about 1.5 inch by 6 inch strips.

4. Wrap your strips gluing the ends down as you go along.

5. Tie your ribbon on your fabric heart and hang. It is super light so I just hung mine on my pantry door using double sided tape.

Things That Matter Most

January 16, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Having a baby makes you realize quickly how cluttered your life has become. I have so many things filling up my time, good things, but things nonetheless. I have been working hard to clear my schedule and mind and really focus on my family and those precious moments with my little ones. I saw this video on my friend Kara’s blog and had to share it too!

This, this right here is what matters most to me.

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Texas Monkey

January 14, 2011 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

Hey Ya’ll I’m so excited to be here with you Little Tipsy Readers and Fans! I myself am a huge fan of Michelle’s, she rocks in every category in my opinion! I’m sure you think so too.

Who am I? I’m Shayna from Texas Monkey, a small but fun blog where I am glamorizing, mesmerizing, and accessorizing my life and home one project at a time. I say Ya’ll and Fixin’ a lot! Hope you’re ok with that. It is a Texas Gal blog after all. I’m also owner of Texas Monkey Boutique where I make and sell handmade accessories for girls, including the girl in you. 😉
I’m married to my teenage sweetheart who is referred to as Poppa and we have one 2 year old little Monkey girl aka Monkey, ahhhh now you see where the name came from? I work full time in accounting but working so hard to make my boutique a successful one where I can be a stay at home mommy working from home. I also publish Macaroni Kid for Dallas. It’s one of the best decisions I ever made, feel free to ask me about it.

Let me share a little about my blog. I call it a pot luck sort of blog, you know like at church pot lucks where there’s a little bit of everything and you want to fill it all on one plate? Yep that’s me.

I love to show my readers projects I’ve done.
Like these Toddler Bookshelves. Which includes a step by step so you too can make them.

And I love throwing parties and journal pretty much every detail I put in them. I’ve done many themes but my favs are the Ladybug Themed Party and the Monkey Themed party.

But I also showcase projects that I want to do someday, projects I know I can do just maybe not today, in posts called Dream Book and then when I actually get around to doing one I of course blog about it in a post called Dream Book Experiment like the shirt below.

I also share tutorials so that my readers can learn how to make things that I too am learning how to make, these get posted on Thursday’s Tutorial Posts like these fun and adorable TuTu Leggings

Or this Ruffled Flowered Collar

On Mondays I have an All About You Monday Link Up Party where you can showcase what you’ve been working on.
I tend to take blogging breaks and can be a slacker at times but I alwaus try to make it up to my readers by good giveaways, recipes, tips, and humor.

I do have a store Texas Monkey Boutique which I like to showcase things I’ve made on my blog and really enjoy creating custom orders for my awesome customers. Feel free to contact me at texasmonkeyboutique@gmail if you have any little girl accessory needs. Like this set I did for a little monkey who was turing 1. So cute.

A lot of my items are custom made so the customer gets that added uniqueness so you won’t find it listed in my online store but I always post pics of items I’ve created on my facebook Fan Page so you can get ideas to request your own unique item. Would love to have you as a fan.
Well that’s a little about me, my blog and my store.

I’d love for ya’ll to stop by my small town blog (you know the kind, where everyone knows everyone and you can always find someone to help you out with whatever you need) and check out my store. Texas Monkey Blog and Texas Monkey Boutique and Texas Monkey Fan Page. If you become a follower or a fan I’d be so honored and will return the favor.

Thank you so much to Michelle for letting me come here and meet all of you wonderful readers! I hope to see you around.
Happy Friday Ya’ll

Fast Healthy Lunch under 300 calories!

January 12, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 7 Comments

For the new year, I want to start eating better. As a nursing mom, I need a fast healthy lunch to keep me going through the afternoon and into the witching hours before dinner where everything always seems to get crazy. I made up this little sandwich that is not only easy and fast, but economical when you buy it right.

Ingredients:

  • Thomas’ Bagel Thins
  • Foster Farms Turkey and Turkey Pastrami
  • The Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss
  • Popeye Spinach
  • Mustard (optional)
  • Tomatoes (optional)

Here’s the trick. I bought my cheese and bagel thins at Costco. The cheese was $8 for a 4 pack. It was $4 for one at the grocery store. The bagel thins were $6 for 3 packs. I got a wheat, a plain and an everything because I wanted to try them all. Look for the store brand of spinach. it will be way cheaper. Mine is from Smith’s (Kroger) and who doesn’t love a little Popeye with their spinach?!

Spread both sides of bagel with cheese. I used 1 1/2 triangles. Add one piece of turkey and one piece of turkey pastrami. Top with spinach.

Pair it with the slices if one small apple and voila, fast healthy lunch that is yummy too!

One delicious sandwich + one apple snitch=

Don’t you love the dishes the hubs surprised me with for Christmas?!

And here’s the facts:

Notables:
  • Bagel thins have less calories and fat than two slices of wheat bread
  • Turkey Pastrami has less fat and more protein than regular turkey
  • Laughing cow cheese replaces mayo and cheese saving you 180 calories and 16 grams of fat!! (2 Tbs mayo and 1 sq inch of cheddar)
  • Spinach is loaded with Vitamin A

Add in a little piece of chocolate for good measure. If I were really healthy it would be some dark chocolate with almonds. 😉
