YW Read Scriptures 5 Minutes/Day Incentive Program

May 17, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Last year the youth were asked by the YM/YW General Presidents to read their scriptures for at least 5 minutes per day. We loved this idea and decided it would be nice to have a little accountability and recognition for those who were doing it. We brought in this giant candy jar and and each week we let everyone who read 5 minutes every single day that week come up and get a piece of candy. This way those who did it were recognized and those who did not might be motivated to do it next week.

This year we wanted to continue the program, but felt it needed a little extra something to keep it fresh. We wanted something to show the progress, that we could add to each week. We decided it would be great to also incorporate a service aspect. We came up with the idea to make a chart where they would put a sticker each week they read every day. This would show the progress, but each sticker also represents a quarter. At the end of the year, all the money that was earned throughout the year will be donated to a family in need of the girls’ choice.

We still let them take a piece of candy, as an immediate reward, but now they can watch their progress and know that they are not only helping themselves by reading their scriptures, but also helping someone in need.

Let me tell you, this works. At least for me, a little accountability goes a long way for motivation. I have only missed going up two weeks since we instituted this program last year. I don’t want to ask my girls to do something that I am not doing myself.

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with I am Only 1 Woman

May 14, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

I am so excited to be Blog Swapping today with Michelle! First off let me introduce myself.

I am a stay at home mom of 2 awesome girls and one dog. They are my inspiration for sure. Everything that I have made has been for them in some way.

Here are a couple of things that I have made over at my blog:

I love to make new clothes for my girls out of old clothes.

I also made this fun Ribbon skirt for my daughter (Part 1, Part 2)

I also have many other tutorials on my blog. Make sure to stop by and check them out.

Michelle wanted me to answer a few questions:

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
Definitely my sewing machine is my favorite thing to use. I use it almost everyday.

How many necklaces do you own?
I did not count them, but I am pretty sure over 20…I like having one for every outfit. Weird, I know 🙂

If you won $200 that must be spent on you, today, what would you spend it on?
I would probably buy clothes. That always seems to be the last thing on my list.

I also have my own Etsy shop. There I sell rag quilts, car seat tents, and lots of patterns. Some of the patterns I sell are rag quilts, belly band, and fabric flowers.

Thanks again for swapping blogs with me and make sure to stop by tomorrow and link up to Check ME Out Saturday Link Party Have a great day!

Cheesy Pesto Chicken Rolls

May 13, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 10 Comments

I mentioned last week on Facebook that I made up this recipe and here it is, finally. I give you, Cheesy Pesto Chicken Rolls, a recipe made up by me and packed full of flavor!

No ingredient pic because well, I made it up as I went along, but here is what you’ll need. I am feeding 2 adults and one small child so adjust the recipe as needed.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Chicken Breast
  • Approx. 4 T. Fresh Pesto (I used this recipe or you could buy some)
  • Olive Oil cooking spray (or whatever kind you like)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella
  • 1 can Crescent dough
  • 1/4 C. Freshly grated Parmesan

Preheat the oven according to crescent dough directions.

1. Cover the chicken in 1 T. of Pesto and marinate for 15 minutes.
2. Warm a non stick skillet and spray with Olive oil cooking spray.
3. Cook the chicken for a few minutes on each side. I like to cut it in to pieces as it cooks so I can see exactly when it’s done. Plus, then all sized get some of the yummy flavor. The pesto will for a nice crust and look a little something like this.

4. Roll out your crescent dough on a cookie sheet.
5. Put a big pinch of mozzarella on each crescent, a dollop of pesto on top of that and a piece of chicken on top.

6. Roll each crescent and make sure the filling is covered.
7. Cover the top of each roll with shredded Parmesan.

8. Bake according to crescent package instructions until golden brown.

I made some Alfredo sauce to pour over the top, but found that we really did not need it. I preferred them without the sauce because they had so much flavor on their own.

Enjoy!

Need help…What should son wear for pics?

May 12, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 52 Comments

Pics are being taken Saturday at Wheeler Farm. Please help me choose what to put the child in. The hubs is no help and well, I can’t make a decision. Sorry about the one of each shoe, I was too lazy to change them each time. The actual color of shoe is in the clothes layout pic. And I was too lazy to make him pose for the 15ish options, so judge the outfit not the pose. 😉

Option 1

Specify brown or orange jacket.

Option 2

Option 3-removed based on votes so far. 🙂 See I totally listen!

Option 4

with brown shoes

Now cast your vote. If he looks at these pics in ten years and asks me, “Mom, what were you thinking when you dressed me?!” I will blame you. 😉 JK

PS. Sorry for the giant amount of posts today! And…it’s my blog and I’ll post if I want to, post if I want to, post if I want to *sung to the tune of “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry if I Want to”*
