Make Your Own $6 Berry Wreath

May 18, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 24 Comments

I always loved those cute berry wreaths, but like many other things I thought “I can make that.” So when I found stems of purple and white berries at the Dollar Tree, I had to do it, and I love it! Behold the $6 Spring Berry Wreath.

Items needed:

  • 5 Stems of Berries in various colors ($1 each, I had 2 purple & 3 white)
  • Small Grapevine wreath (50 cents at the thrift store, stash busting again)
  • Ribbon Scrap (on hand)
  • Wire cutters (on hand)

1. Start by cutting each little group of berries off the stem, leaving the stick long. I left the leaves on the purple and pulled them off the white. I wanted a little green, but not too much.
2. Start spacing your dominant color and attach by winding the wire stem through the wreath. If you want it more secure you can hot glue.

3. Continue placing the stems, alternating colors until the wreath is full.

4. Attach a coordinating ribbon to the grapevine on the back and tie in to a bow to hang. I adore this sparkly paisley ribbon from Michael’s!

5. Enjoy your new wreath that cost $6 and took 15 minutes! It rounds out my $5 Spring Porch Decor just perfectly! Hello $11 makeover.

Plain & Boring…Springified

I am giving you fair warning about these rogue berries that will inevitably fall off and get everywhere. They are the perfect size for little nostrils. They made their way in to my little guys like three times before I got them all cleaned up and thrown away. Luckily they are shot out easily by plugging the other nostril and blowing. Get rid of them ASAP!

$2 Spring Soda Bottle Flower Arrangement

May 10, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 4 Comments

It may be raining outside, but we have a touch of spring on our dining table. This little arrangement brightens up my day, even when the clouds are looming outside. Were you wondering where the sixth bottle from this collection went? Now you know!

My little one chose these daisies at the dollar store. He was very insistent and would not let them go, so I decided to go with it and found the turquoise glass gems to add another pop of color. This project cost me a total of $2!! Another stash busting hubs pleaser!

What you’ll need:
Silk Flowers
Soda Bottle with labels removed
Glass gems
Burlap scrap
Ribbon Scrap
Glue gun

1. Put all the gems inside the bottle.
2. Hot glue a scrap of burlap just wider than your ribbon on the bottle.
3. Tie a bow in your ribbon leaving the tails long enough to wrap around the bottle. Glue it in place on the burlap.
4. Insert the flowers. I cut a few of the stems off so I could arrange them at different heights.

That’s it! $2 and 5 minutes and you have a fun arrangement for your table!

Feature Friday: Blog Swap with I Heart Naptime w/ Chocolate Sundaes

May 7, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

Hey! I’m Jamielyn from I ♄ naptime w/ chocolate sundaes!

I’m excited to be swapping with A little Tipsy. I love her title…I definitely find myself a little “tipsy” these days!
Michelle asked me a few fun questions…so here they go!!

1. What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
I would say my cricut! I got it last Christmas, and it has saved me so much time! No more tracing circles with a paper plate, or cutting out paper hearts…it does it ALL for me and SO much more! Oh and I SOO want the Cricut Cake…but just can’t justify that one.

2. If you were an ice cream topping which would you be and why?
I would be homemade chocolate syrup, because what else do you need then a big fat
chocolate sundae?? Especially during nap time šŸ˜‰

3. What is your favorite Mother’s Day present you have either given or received?

I would say the cards from my hubby! They are so sweet, and remind me that I am a good mother!

I’m going to share with you a few of my favorite posts. Click the link to find the tutorials.

Isn’t she great?! I really do need to get a handle on my ribbon storage. Her little holder is super cute, though I would need two or three. Yep, it’s that out of control! Thanks Jamielyn for swappin’ it up!

Decorating Your Porch for Spring with $5

May 6, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 21 Comments

My poor porch needed a springy update and bad. Since the hubs has pretty much put the halt on my thrifting until I use and/or reinvent all the treasures I have previously brought home, figures. šŸ˜‰ I used this opportunity to bring out some of my finds that have up until this point been neglected.

I shopped my house and with the exception of four $1 Hydrangea stems snagged from the Dollar Tree everything else was stuff I already had.

1. Watering Can Arrangement
I started out with this metal can I bought from the D.I. last summer for $1. Thus, the $5 cost up top, $4 in flowers, $1 for can. I spruced the can up a bit with a strip of burlap and ribbon bow, then arranged the Hydrangeas. Loved it, but it looked so lonely on the porch all alone.

2. Old Chair
I found this chair in the garage. My Bro in Law gave a few of them to us when he got married and upgraded his dining set. It is totally weathered because we left it on the deck one winter. We wanted to throw it out 100 times, but something told me no. Now I know why. It makes me smile. There was still a little something missing.

4. Wine Box
Swiped this from my little sis when she moved. Heaven knows where she got it. I think someone wrapped a wedding present in it? Added a little polka dot ribbon and looked for what the heck to put in it.

5. Glass Soda Bottles
Remembered the six pack of Grape Crush bottles I collected from a family party at my sister Amy’s house last weekend. My nieces and nephews thought I was a loon as my eyes gleamed as each one of them finished their drink and handed me the bottle and bottle cap. I knew I could do something with them.

So, here comes the poll. I thought it would be so cute to add drinking straws to each of the bottles for something original and to add an element of fun. Does it add summery fun, or make it look like a bunch of trash I left on my porch? See below and vote please!

Plain Bottles or Bottles with straws?

I need all y’alls opinions! All in all I am so very pleased with my new found springdom and the hubs is pleased with how many of my “treasures” I used. maybe I will be out of the thrifty doghouse soon. šŸ˜‰ For now, stay tuned for more stash busting projects!
