Feature Friday-Rosy Red Buttons

April 15, 2011 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

Hello A Little Tipsy friends! My name is Camilla and I am so excited to be here on A Little Tipsy! I LOVE Michelle’s blog, she has so many good ideas. She is also such a great person and I am so glad she is letting me take over her blog today! (hopefully she feels the same…;) ) Here goes!

I am married to the greatest man EVER (I know you’ll probably throw in the vote for your husband, but its just not true) 😉 and we welcomed our first child, a girl into our lives on January 20th. We just can’t seem to get enough of her. I take pictures as a profession. And yes, my poor daughter has already been subjected to countless photo shoots in her short three weeks of life. My husband digs in the dirt for his profession. Seriously. They even pay him for it. 🙂 I have a little blog called Rosy Red Buttons that I started in Septemberish and it has been all kinds of fun to do. I started it just because I was going to be doing so many remodels and projects in preparation for our little girl.

I also enjoy decorating and then re-decorating my house, so some of my projects involve that. I recently finished the master bedroom with all the furnishing and decor I wanted and said to my hubby, “Look it’s finally finished!” He looked back at me and said, “We’ll see.” It has sat for 3 months relatively untouched, so I’m pretty happy about that. He is too. Here are some of my favorite projects from this year:

DIY Bed Canopy. Quick, easy, AND cheap. Music to my ears. 🙂

Personal Picture Clocks. These were so fun to make and they are excellent anniversary, wedding, christmas, birthday, you name it gifts!

Nursery Makeover! Ok, I realize that most of my projects involve baby-ness, but I can’t help myself. I love that she’s here to fill up this sweet space!

Coat Skirt. A quick way to fancify that old coat.

Ruffled Table Runner. Yea, I’m kind of obsessed with ruffles. These can be made as short or long as you need!

Custom Canvas Frames. I smile everytime I see it on my staircase.
I think that is enough to be sufficient for you. Um, did that sentence even make sense? Probably not. I’d love to meet you and see your fun ideas and blogs and have you follow along in my attempts to be a first time parent while crafting. Uh Yikes. Come by and see me at Rosy Red Buttons! Thanks again Michelle for having me over. You rock! Have a great day!!

——————————————————–

Isn’t that nursery to die for? Almost makes me want to have another baby. Ok, maybe not quite yet! Thanks Camilla for sharing some great ideas!

DIY Under $5: Bird Cage

April 13, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 12 Comments

I looked through the thrift store and what did I see? A $2 bird cage starring back at me.

Granted, it did not start out so lovely and white.

It needed a little TLC, aka, me blowing the dust off and adding a couple coats of heirloom white. Here it is drying after the first batch (my paint ran out) with a couple of other projects in the works.

Another coat of paint did the trick.

Isn’t she loverly? I shall name her Bella. Bella the bird cage.

Wondering what in the heck is inside? That would be the little love birds from my Valentine display along with a whole bundle of paper, burlap and fabric scraps from last year’s “no bunny loves me like ewe do” banner also seen in my “11 Ways to Decorate Plastic Easter Eggs“. Keep your scraps!

Isn’t my apricot tree beautiful this time of year?! I love the bird cage in the tree, but don’t want it to blow off and die over night so it will be hanging out on a shelf inside. Also, I am tempted to paint the birds blue so they stand out more.

Total cost: $5.50
$2 bird cage
$3.50 spray paint

So now it’s time to link up!

Please remember:

  • Only link to your own projects that cost you $5 or less (price does not have to include items you had on hand)
  • You can link past projects that fit the dollar limit
  • Please link back so others can join the party

Paper Mache Eggs

April 8, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 16 Comments

Today, I am sharing my Paper Mache Eggs which were born from a craft cabinet full of random stuff and a quickly approaching guest post deadline. 😉 Gotta love a good de-stash project. Welcome to anyone visiting from Kiki Creates!

I wanted an Easter display minus the pastel color scheme, so I went with a dark purple, silver, and green.

Wanna know the secret ingredient? Water balloons. You heard me.

Supplies Needed:
  • Small water balloons
  • Book or music pages
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Water
  • Ribbon
  • 3 little wood candlesticks
  • E-6000
  • Silver metallic spray paint
  • Hot glue
  • Moss

1. Blow the water balloons up to the size of a large plastic egg (I had to use one of those things you use to blow up the long skinny balloons for balloon animals), tie a knot and cut off the tail.
2. Then, mix one part Elmer’s with two parts water.
3. Rip your paper into 1/2 inch by 3 inch strips. Dip your paper strips in the the glue mixture, cover your “egg”and dry overnight. (I ripped the music sheets and cut the book pages with scissors. The ripped paper adhered a lot better and was more smooth)
4. Tie some ribbon around the eggs.

5. To make the pedestals take tiny wooden candlesticks, glue the tops of two together, and let dry.
6. Spray the candlesticks silver and let dry.

7. Hot glue a bit of moss to the top of the candlesticks and hot glue the eggs to the moss.

That is all my friends!
