Cereal Treat Sunday-Addiction

August 29, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 8 Comments

I love dessert and I can’t help but want a treat on Sunday afternoon. I love to try new recipes and thus Cereal Treat Sunday is born. I have so many cereal treats that I love. Maybe it is the crunch, maybe it is the ease of which they are prepared, but cereal treats are a favorite in our household. Each Sunday for the next well, while, until I run out of fantastic cereal recipes to share I will post on Sunday afternoon to give you a fun new treat to try with your family.

Let’s start with a recipe that came from my mother in law. This one lives up to it’s name. Truly, try to make a batch and just have one handful. Impossible!!

Addiction

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 Cups Butter
  • 2 Cups Lite Corn Syrup
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 17 oz box Corn Chex
  • 1 box Golden Grahams
  • 1/2 box Kix
  • 1-2 Cups Sliced Almonds
  • 1-2 Cups Coconut Ribbon

(this recipe makes a huge batch, I half it quite often)

In large saucepan melt butter, then add corn syrup, then add sugar. Bring to a boil and boil 2-3 minutes. (stir until dissolved and then let it heat up without stirring)

Mix dry ingredients in a giant bowl. Pour liquid over and mix well. Lay in a thin layer on wax paper and allow to dry. You may want to let it dry overnight before putting it in Ziplocs otherwise it will be really sticky.

If you have a favorite cereal treat, please, please leave a link in the comments or send the recipe to me by email (tipsyblog@gmail.com) and maybe you will get featured.

Chicken Grape Salad Recipe

August 10, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 8 Comments

This recipe is a family favorite from my mom. It is so easy and delightfully light for hot summer days. It also passes the hubby test for dinner even though it’s a salad since the main ingredient is chicken. 😉

Chicken Grape Salad Recipe

Ingredients:
2 Cups Red Grapes
3 Cups Diced Chicken Breast
3/4 Cup Mayo
1/2 t. Ginger
1/2 t. salt
1 Cup Chopped Celery
1/3 Cup Sliced Green Onions
1/2 Cup Slivered Almonds

Mix it all together and enjoy!

I like to pair it with fresh fruit and croissants on the side. You could even put it on a croissant for a chicken salad sandwich if you wanted. If you do that I would suggest cutting the grapes in half or substituting craisins.

I am not usually a leftover person, but chicken grape salad keeps really well too!

Foil Dinner Tips

July 27, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 10 Comments

With summer winding down I thought I would share a thing or two we have learned about foil dinners and how to make them the very best.

  • Line the foil with a leaf of cabbage to keep your dinner from burning.
  • Use tater tots instead of plain potatoes to cook faster and add more flavor
  • Ingredients we like to use: Hamburger patty, tater tots, onion, any other veggie we have around (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Zucchini, carrots, snow or sugar snap peas, etc)
  • Add onion to flavor even if you don’t like to eat it
  • Add salt and pepper over the whole thing
  • Use two layers of regular foil or one layer of heavy duty, roll the edges to form a pouch.
  • If customizing the dinners to people’s preferences, use a sharpie to mark with initials

There’s nothing like unwrapping a pouch full of fire cooked goodness just when the air starts to get a little cool at night.

What are your favorite tips for foil dinners?

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Creative Itch

May 28, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

I’m so excited to be swapping blogs with Michelle today!! Let me introduce myself…..

I’m Misty from Creative Itch.

I’ve been happily married to my best friend for 12 years, and am the proud Momma of 5 fantastic kids….four girls, ages 10, 9, 7, 4, and a boy who’s 2. I love anything and everything crafty, and am always on the hunt for great projects to try.

I have an ever growing “To Do List” on my sidebar, and thought I’d share a few that I’ve been able to tackle.

These cute Accordion Albums were fun and simple to make!

My daughters were pleased as punch with their cute Scripture Covers!

And my sewing machine has been happy ever since I made this Sewing Machine Cover to protect her from all the dust that seems to collect in my house!

I also love to cook and bake!! I try and post recipes that my family loves on Fridays, like this yummy Pistachio Nut Pudding!

If you’re looking for some fun sewing ideas, or want to share one of your sewing projects, join me on Tuesdays for my “Sew Cute Tuesday” linky party! I’m amazed each week by the fun projects that are linked up!

Before I go, Michelle asked me to answer 3 questions so you could get to know me a little bit better…….
#1. What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
Right now, my favorite crafting tool is my sewing machine! I’m a beginner when it comes to sewing, but I find it relaxing, and am always very proud of myself when I finish a project!

#2. If you could take the fam anywhere this Memorial Day Weekend, where would it be and why?
I would be content to stay home with my family this Memorial Day Weekend!! My husband works out of town 4 days a week, so when he’s home, we try to take advantage of our time with him!! My perfect weekend would include playing games, watching movies, and having a BBQ with my little family!

#3. Describe your favorite pair of shoes…
I’m a plain Jane when it comes to shoes!! I own exactly 6 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of flip flops. I love to look at cute shoes while shopping, but seldom buy any for myself. The ones I wear most often are a black pair of crocs. Boring, I know!!

Thanks again, Michelle, for letting me take over your blog today!! I had a blast!

Aren’t those scripture covers adorable?! Thanks Misty for swappin’ it up!
