Cereal Treat Sunday-Nummy Mummy Recipe

October 17, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

Here’s a fun Halloween treat for you chocolate, marshmallow and peanut butter fans out there. This mummy recipe comes with a chewy crunch that will delight the taste buds and the eyes.

Nummy Mummy Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 7 cups Reese’s Puffs Cereal (I like it really gooey, use 8 cups if you like more cereal)
  • 2 bags marshmallows (1 bag to melt, 1 bag for mummy strips)
  • 1 bag milk chocolate chips
  • 5 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • powdered sugar
1. Pour cereal in to a large bowl. Butter or spray 13x9x2 pan.
2. Melt 1 bag marshmallows, chocolate chips, butter and corn syrup in a saucepan on medium low, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
3. Pour marshmallow mixture over cereal and stir until well coated.

4. Press mixture into pan with buttered spoon or cooking spray coated hands.
5. Cut out circles using a glass or measuring cup. I used a 1 cup and they were huge.

6. Cover flat surface with powdered sugar and roll marshmallows until flat. Cut in to strips with kitchen shears.
7. Cover your cereal circle with strips until it looks like a mummy. (I used about 5 large marshmallows to cover one big treat.) Leave a slit for two Reese’s Puffs for eyes.

I guess that about wraps it up. ha ha ha.

MMmmm Nummy Mummy!

Feature Friday-Blog Swap with Sugar Bee Craft Edition

October 15, 2010 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

Hello A Little Tipsy readers!! I’m excited to be here. I am Mandy from over on Sugar Bee Craft Edition. The obligatory clickable button insert:

I am lucky to stay home with my four kids and enjoy all the fun that comes with it. I also (obviously!) love crafts and creating. Here’s a couple of pictures of the whole gang from our recent vacation:

I’ve been blogging on my craft blog for about a year and half now, and it just keeps growing. I feel that if I can do something, you can too, so a lot of my posts are tutorials. I do a lot more than crafts (although plently of those!) – – I especially love easy sewing projects, like this Shirred Pillowcase Dress.

I love making glass tile pendants and made some with pictures and even clipart using the school mascot (perfect gifts for grandmas and teachers!)

I love to feature favorite recipes of mine, like my go-to treat whenever it’s potluck: Furnkies!

I also dabble in photography and photoshop elements tips – I’m not an expert, but I like to share what I know, like how to get that “blurry background” look from your pictures.

And I did a whole redo of our basement and created a great Playroom all centered around the wall tree that turned out perfect – I LOVE it all!!

Also, I have a link party on Tuesdays called Take-A-Look Tuesday – – where YOU can link up what you’ve been working on – I love checking out all the fun ideas and projects.

Michelle has a few questions, so let’s do that:

  • What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon? – sewing machine, for sure. I love all crafts but always come back to sewing. Although I have been into Mod Podge lately (I even did a pair of shoes…)
  • What were you for Halloween last year? – I bought this weird hooped polka-dot outfit thing from a garage sale – after pouring myself into it and wearing it for the evening, I realized that it was kid-sized and passed it on to a delighted 8 year old…
  • What is on your nightstand? – I’m pretty boring- just scriptures and an alarm clock. I’m hoping to spruce up my nightstands a bit and then maybe they’ll be more exciting…..

I hope you’ll swing by and see me in my part of the blog world. Thanks for letting me pop on over here!

Cereal Treat Sunday-Eyeball Recipe

October 11, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 11 Comments

If it is a peanut butter crunch treat covered in chocolate, I don’t care if it is in the shape of an eyeball, I’ll eat it! Here’s a fun little eyeball recipe to add to you Halloween collection. The best part is you can make two eyeball versions with one recipe.

Eyeball Recipe yield: 14 monster eyeballs

  • 3/4 Cup crunchy peanut butter (creamy is way too sticky to roll into balls, trust me)
  • 1/2 Cup powdered sugar
1 Cup Reeses Peanut Butter Puff Cereal, crushed
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (I used half white and half semi sweet because I wanted to make both versions)
  • 1 teaspoon Crisco
1 small bag M&M’s (I used the pretzel ones because that’s what I had)
  • Red gel frosting for white eyeballs and green frosting for brown eyeballs

1. Place peanut butter, powdered sugar and crushed cereal into a large bowl. Mix until dough forms. Take 1 Tablespoon pieces and roll into balls. Freeze for 15 minutes.

If you do both versions do a 1/2 cup choc chips and 1/2 teaspoon crisco of each kind of choc chip.

White version

2. Melt chocolate and crisco in microwave on 50 percent power stirring often. Drop the balls into the chocolate and move around with a spoon until covered. Remove them with the spoon letting the excess drip off. Place on wax paper and place M&M in center. Allow chocolate to harden and add squiggles of red gel frosting. Serve chilled.

Brown version

2. Melt chocolate and crisco in microwave on 50 percent power stirring often. Using two toothpicks about 1/3 inch apart dip peanut butter balls into chocolate leaving top centers open. Place on wax paper and let chocolate harden, then place M&M in center of opening to cover toothpick holes and form the eye. Add eyelashes with green frosting. Serve chilled.

Toddler twist: Let your little one crush the cereal using a toy hammer. Thanks to Tauni for this great idea of how to make cooking more boy friendly!

I got the original monster eyeball recipe from Picky Palate and altered it.

Cereal Treat Sunday-Scotcheroos

October 3, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 5 Comments

Cute Rachael reminded me of this recipe which is one of her faves. My Sis-in-law brought Scotcheroos to our family reunion this summer and they were gone almost as fast as she could take the lid off the pan. They are a big crowd pleaser!

Scotcheroos

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1 package (6 oz., 1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips

Directions:

1. Place corn syrup and sugar into 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to boil. Remove from heat.
2. Stir in peanut butter. Mix well.
3. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
4. Press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Set aside.
5. Melt chocolate and butterscotch chips together in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Spread evenly over cereal mixture.
6. Let stand until firm. Cut into bars when cool.

I think they would be super yummy with peanut butter chips instead of butterscotch chips too!

If you have a favorite cereal treat, please leave a link in the comments or send the recipe to me by email (tipsyblog@gmail.com) and maybe you will get featured.
