Easy 4th of July Decor and Crafts

June 27, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Ribbon Topiary by Whitney Caroline Designs

Isn’t this cute?! I have the Styrofoam ball and moss left over from my DIY moss ball project (coming soon). I bought a container I am going to paint and a some star ribbon at the dollar store yesterday so I just need a little more ribbon and a dowel!

Ribbon Topiary

Sand Candles from Martha Stewart

If you can pour, you can do this! Just add a votive candle to a cup of sand. Easy peasy!

Presidential garland by Lipstick and Laundry

She got the president flashcards from the Target dollar section and hung them with twine and mini clothespins. What a fun idea!

Uncle Sam Windsock by McIllece Spot

Another fantastic use for an oatmeal can! What a cute and friendly way yo dress up your doorstep or deck!

Little Hands and Feet flag from Serendipity

This is just too cute! The kids will love playing with the paint and displaying this work of art.

Paper Cone Fireworks by Little Birdie Secrets

This one was not necessarily meant to be for the 4th, but wouldn’t those paper cones make really cute fireworks made out of Red, White and Blue papers?!

Party poppers by Little Birdie Secrets

I totally have plans to make some of these for my little guy and nieces and nephews. I am going to combine this design with the next one so they look more like firecrackers with the tie on one end only. I got a bunch of fun 4th stuff (necklaces, bubbles, pop-its, etc) in the Target dollar section to fill them with. Now I just need to use a bunch of toilet paper and fast! I need those cardboard rolls!

Firecracker Candy Favors from Homemaking Fun

Lifesavers never looked so good!

Firecracker Craft from make and Takes

A really fun craft for the kiddos. I just got a pack of really bright tissue paper at the dollar store to make my party poppers and was wondering what to do with the orange and yellow.

4th of July Twirlers by Family Fun

All you need is plastic lids, scissors and string!

Fourth of July Twirlers

Star Spangled Luminaries from Family Fun

A great way to brighten up the night at home! Make them festive with tissue paper lining the cutouts or to keep it simple, just leave them brown.

Just one week until the fourth! Better get to it! Later!

Father’s Day Photo Present

June 15, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 11 Comments

So, I am showing you this in good faith that neither my husband or Father will see it before Father’s Day. If they do, surprise…Happy Father’s Day!!

Now that we have that taken care of I can show you what I am doing for Father’s Day this year. I saw this idea in a bunch of different places and loved it. I took my little guy in to Target for the pictures, but you could take them yourself.

I got paper mache letters ($2 each at craft store) to spell Dad and Papa (what he calls grandpa). Lucky for me, I only had to buy 3 letters! Here’s a preview of how you could group them (just ignore that she mixed up Papa). I was cheap and bought the pics separate for $4 a sheet instead of doing a premade grouping for $30 a sheet. I will just put them in frames. I figured I could group them like that later in photoshop if I felt the need.

Then, I took an item that represented them in some way. A duck for Grandpa, since his office has mallard stuff in it and he takes him to feed the ducks and a computer for Dad since, well he is a computer geek.

I was going to change his outfit in the middle, but reality check, we barely got these shots. He is too fast and crazy for us at this age. I love how they turned out. I think his Daddy and Papa will be very excited!

Mother’s Day Tradition

May 9, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Today, after weed whacking the entire garden area full of 3 ft. weeds, I decided that I am going to start a new Mother’s Day tradition in my family. Instead of receiving gifts from my hubby and kid(s) I want the Saturday before Mother’s Day to be “mom’s day”. The first half of the day will be spent with everyone doing whatever I ask with no complaining (ya right, I know. I am hoping if I start while my son is 17 mos. he will not know any better). Service is my “love language” so this is my dream! It will be an amazing time to catch up on projects or assign chores I am dying to have done.

To keep morale high and keep the tradition going, the evening will be spent having a fun dinner and family activity like game night or going mini golfing. Doesn’t this sound AMAZING? Now I just have to go break the news to my family. Wish me luck! 😉

I just told my hubby and it was far less painful than I anticipated!! Woo hoo! I can’t wait for next year! I think he might be counting on the fact that I forget, but I won’t!!!

Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions?

Making A Gift for Mother’s Day

April 29, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Here are some ideas I found in my search for a more personal Mother’s Day gift. Wouldn’t it be nice to make something instead of just sending a random card with something you found at Target last minute? There is still time to make something great! Here are just a few ideas I liked. They seem quite a step up from a World’s Greatest Mom mug.

Flower Pins from Grace Violet

The ultimate shabby chic! I love these! You can use them anywhere: embellish clothing, bags, storage containers, vases, hair, you name it!

Monogram madness from Living With Lindsay

You all know about my recent monogram obsession. How about a classy framed monogram for those elegant, clean line moms.

<span class=

Or how great would it be to monogram a tin and fill it with fresh flowers that she can later use to house office or craft supplies.

Coconut Chocolate Swirl Cake
from She’s Crafty

Um, YUM! If nothing else I am making this for ME!!! I love how the ribbon adds a pop of color!

Cute Clips from She’s Crafty

Rachelle uses these as chip clips, but I can imagine them everywhere. Hanging from a string of ribbon holding pictures, with magnets on the back to hold notes on the fridge, pinning my sons pants up because he is too darn skinny. (Ok, maybe not that last one.)

Adorable Place Mat Tote by J Caroline Creative

I showed you the single place mat scripture bag we made in an Easter Gift post. What about a two place mat tote for mom. She can use it for church, gardening supplies, Sewing supplies, trips to the lake, whatever. Hey, you could even take it a step further and fill it with supplies for her favorite hobby.

Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Hearts by Make and Takes

Don’t these look yummy! They remind me of something you would find in the candy shoppes along Park City’s Main Street. You could put them in a fun box that she can keep for jewelry or other little keepsakes.

Asparagus Flower Arrangement by Bloggin’ It From the Burbs

I LOVE asparagus, but would have never thought to use it like this. This cute arrangement is something anyone can do!March 09 059 8x10

Bloom Blocks by Lincoln 6th Super Saturday

How about some fun spring decor? I love how they have used the flowers for the Os! You could even add another board that says “where you’re planted.”

Ok folks, that’s all for now!

If you have or have seen a great idea please share either in the comments or by email Muhanahuli (at) Yahoo (dot) com.

Just one more thing, how come Dad’s and Grandpa’s get all the fun primary songs while Mom’s get songs about meadow’s of clover? No fair! My mom used to love *she says in a sarcastic voice* to hear them sing “Love at Home” while the 6 of us fought over crayons on the pew. 😉
