You Were ‘Mint’ for Me-Kix Prize Pack Giveaway

January 3, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 99 Comments

I have never been a big cereal eater. My day usually begins with a glass of Ovaltine or a granola bar when I am on the go, but my boys love cereal. They eat in in the morning, they’ll eat is as a snack, they have even been known to coat ice cream with it. Knowing this, it was no surprise that when Kix sent me a couple of boxes to try, the box of Honey Kix was gone almost immediately after removing it from the shipping box.

Being an advertising major in college, I knew that Kix is “Kid tested-Mother Approved” but there are some interesting breakfast facts I was unaware of. For instance, a new survey from Kix found that 84 percent of parents turn to cereal with milk for a quick and healthy breakfast. I suppose I am a minority. Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal has fewer calories than almost any other common breakfast option? I didn’t. In addition, cereal eaters consume less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters. I may be converted to cereal after all.

But, anyone who knows me knows I am a treat girl. So, naturally I took the remaining box of Kix and kicked it up a notch. We’re talking a super treat that is totally “Mother Approved.” Not for breakfast of course, but I chose to show the versatility of the cute little corn balls that have been around for oh, 70 years or so.

Let’s go with a Valentines recipes theme using one of my favorite combos of Mint and Chocolate I like to lovingly call (cue the Jewel song)

You Were “Mint” for Me and I was meant for you πŸ˜‰

Ingredients: (makes one heart)

  • 1/2 cup Dark Chocolate with Mint Morsels or Andes Mints
  • 1/2 cup Kix cereal
  • A few red M&Ms crushed
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Mint candy cane or any candy stick

1. Microwave the morsels stirring often until smooth.
2. Stir Kix into chocolate.
3. Put mixture into heart mold on wax paper covered plate.
4. Put in fridge for a few of minutes until it will hold the heart shape, but is still soft.
5. Break crook of cane so you just have a stick and carefully insert it in to the bottom of the heart. Put something under the stick to hold it in place.
6. Put back in fridge for at least 15 minutes to set.
7. Turn on broiler and hold the heart under it melting the chocolate on the side that was on the wax paper.
8. Sprinkle with crushed red M&Ms.
9. Put back in fridge to set.

Back…………………………………………Front

10. Dress it up however you like. I used a clear treat bag and some Valentine ribbon. Then, I put it by their love note mailbox with a note that said, “You were ‘mint’ for me!”

Little guy was super excited about this Valentine treat!

I’d say it was a success! And I can feel good about it because it had wholesome cereal in it right? πŸ˜‰

Now, because it is the season of love and here at A Little Tipsy we like to

Kix is giving away a β€œKid-Tested, Mother-Approved” prize pack including a floor puzzle, fun learn-to-count flashcards, a sippy cup, a portable snack container and a box each of Original Kix and Honey Kix cereals.

Babybjorn Carrier Review & Giveaway

December 15, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 255 Comments

If there is one thing I have learned making the rounds with baby number two it is that you can’t skimp with baby products. If you buy cheap diapers they leak, discount bottles will give baby’s tummy bubbles and economical carriers will make your back hurt. When it comes to baby I have my favorite brands and I do not stray. Straying causes stress and who needs more stress?!

Babybjorn makes my carrier of choice. I tried a couple of carrier brands with my first son. I borrowed a carrier from my sister and when she had a baby a few months later, I borrowed my sister-in-law’s Babybjorn carrier. I had no idea what I was missing. The Babybjorn carrier was so much more comfortable! It was easily adjustable to fit like a glove on anyone who wore it. I love that it has lumbar support for me and proper support for my little guy’s wobbly head. There are also little loops by the legs that can hook to make the leg holes smaller for newborns. Love! It makes me feel like my little one can sit comfortably without being flailed about as I move. He loves being all snuggled up and toted about.

(I didn’t put his arms out the holes because he is still little and likes having them close by his face.)

So, guess who has her very own Babybjorn carrier now. Yep, me! It is super festive in bright red. One of the few things for this little guy that aren’t hand me down from my first. Happy new carrier buddy!

What is that you say? You wish you had one too. One that was made from mesh so it is cool and breathable? It should have a cool name (well, besides Bjorn which is a pretty cool name in and of itself!) too like trifecta or verve or synergy. Well call me Fairy Godmother because …

We are giving away a Babybjorn Synergy Carrier to a lucky Tipsy reader!

Stay Home Date Ideas & Giveaway

December 13, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 151 Comments

As much as we love to go out on extravagant date nights, sometimes budget and or time constraints just don’t allow for it. The hubs and I have found a good alternative to going out for these times when you still want a fun date night, but just can’t make it out. The stay home date night. May sound kind of lame at first, but trust me it can be just as fun as going out. Here are some stay home date night ideas to get you started. Just put the little ones to bed and enjoy the time to yourselves!

Candlelight Scrabble Date

I actually surprised my husband with this one and set it all up while he put our son to bed. He loves word games so I chose a few of his favorites to have as options. Then, I spread a blanket on the floor, turned off the lights and surrounded it with plates of candles.

There is something about candlelight that makes everything special. He chose scrabble and it was an extra long game. We melted the candles all the way down.

Then the hubs threw in a twist of his own, pulled out one of his old college books (he was an English major) and read me some Shakespearean Sonnets. Some were romantic, some just kind of weird, but all fun nonetheless.

Chinese Date Night

I was inspired by this Chinese Date night idea from Love Actually. A trip to the party store (Zurchers) and the Dollar Tree and I had everything I needed to pull off our Asian theme. Ours had a little Christmas flair with the green tablecloth. I would do black if it were not December. πŸ™‚

On hand: tablecloth, red ramekins, river rocks, battery tea lights

Dollar Tree: Serenity Garden (thing with rocks sand and rake), place mats, dishes

Zurchers: Asian hat, chopsticks, black take out boxes, fan, Chinese finger trap

Amazon: Asian spoons, Smashburger: Take out boxes

Smith’s: La Choy fortune cookies (in the black boxes)

I spent about $25, but it is all stuff I can use again.

I adorned some of the items with little notes, like “You’re stuck with me” on the Chinese finger trap and “I’m so fortunate to have you” on the fortune cookie box. I realized later I should have put “I’m your biggest fan” on the fan. πŸ™‚

I am still in easy dinner mode so we started out with egg drop soup and then tried an Orange Chicken meal kit by Wanchai Ferry. It actually turned out really good. The directions were easy to follow and all I had to have on hand was chicken and water. The rest was in the box. Nice! Sometimes that’s about all we have in stock these days. πŸ˜‰ The flavor wasn’t really orangey, but had a little spice to it. We would totally make it again.

Sick of giveaways yet? Hope not cause here comes another one! We are giving away a Date Night prize pack that includes one Wanchai Ferry dinner kit, one Macaroni Grill dinner kit, and a $25 Visa gift card that you can use to create a magical date night at home! Sweet, I know!

Neighbor Gift & Thanksgiving Point Annual Family Pass Giveaway

December 8, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 172 Comments

I attended a GNO bloggers event at Thanksgiving Point last week and learned some really fun things. Like how to make this adorable, economical neighbor gift…

Easy as pie: can, pea rocks, potting soil, paper whites bulb, moss, water, burlap, green sprigs, red berries, DONE and for about two dollars!

And where to shop for cute items like these…

I will require all my gifts to be wrapped in this paper. πŸ˜‰ And I just adore these oversized stockings straight out of whoville!

Love, love the burlap pillows! The one on the right reads “My whole heart for my whole life.” Aaah.

Where to taste yummy food like this…

I am dying to try the Grilled Flatbread, Roasted Chicken Pot Pie, House Penne, Spiced Apple Fritters, and Vanilla Creme Brulee. Could I eat it all in one sitting, well I could try!

and where to ride through a glorious light display (including amazing water/ice sculpture) on one of these…

You must try the totally delish hot cocoa!
Plein Air Art Festival September 14-18

This was truly a learning experience for me. I have frequented the many child themed areas of Thanksgiving Point like Cornbelly’s and the Children’s Discovery Garden, but was yet to visit the more adult areas like Harvest Restaurant, where they serve the most divine Rock Shrimp Nachos, and the Emporium, with its 13,000 square feet of one of a kind shopping. There are seriously so many things to do and see at Thanksgiving Point any time of the year! Whether the Tulip Festival, cooking classes, or the gigantic Dinosaur museum there is something to please every member of the family.

Oh, and I have something that will totally please your family! Thanksgiving Point is giving away an annual family pass (value $175) to a lucky Tipsy reader! Talk about fun family present under the tree.

To enter: Leave a comment on what part of Thanksgiving Point you are looking forward to visiting most.
