I Love to See the Temple-Hand Print Spires

As many of you know a new LDS temple (Oquirrh Mountain) was dedicated on Sunday. I felt really blessed to be able to attend the dedication and hear some wonderful uplifting words. My sister and I traded babysitting so that we could each attend a session. One of my favorite things said was something like this…You have a room in your house for eating, you have a room in your house for sleeping, you have a room in your house for TV, but do you have room in your house for Christ?”

I decided that it would be fun to have some Sunday appropriate temple activities and mementos for the kiddos to remember this special day. I found a cute temple coloring page on Mormon Share to start them off. Then, I shrunk down the picture of the new Oquirrh Mountain Temple from LDS.org and printed them each a wallet size copy to keep. I meant to ask my niece how she felt about the new temple and record it for her journal, but ran out of time.

When googling “I love to see the temple coloring” I saw this quote in the third listing. “I love to see the temple. (put fingertips together to form a spire)” I got soooo excited!! How cute would that be, hand print temple spires. I clicked on the listing, but it turns out it is just actions to the song, not an actual art activity. Not anymore. I just traced the outline of their hands on a piece of paper with the angel Moroni printed at the top. It would be really cute to use finger paint or ink so you could see the detail of their tiny hand. It is almost like they are raising their little hand saying, “I love to see the temple.” Sorry if you are gagging now. See it on the fridge below.

The best part about this activity was today when we walked in to the kitchen to get a snack today, my son looked up pointed at the fridge and said, “temple.” Aaah, my heart fell out of my chest. Then, I got a good laugh as I realized I have 7, count them SEVEN, temple pictures on my fridge. Hello.

1. Lists our old wards goals, but they are good so I keep them up there.
2. My mini temple calendar where I keep track of what day we went to the temple each month with a little gold temple sticker. We went tonight, so dear me, that makes 8 temples on the fridge now.
3. A cute little card from Deseret Book that has part of the YW theme “Make and Keep Sacred Covenants.”
4. A magnet of a gorgeous photo of the SLC temple that his talented Aunt LaRae took. We bought at hubs family reunion.

Nature Walk Bracelet

I totally stole this Nature Walk Bracelet idea from Martha. All you need is masking tape and I know you all have a roll stashed somewhere. I knew from the minute I saw this bracelet that my little guy would go crazy for it and I was right! Ours wasn’t so much a nature walk as a stroll through our cul de sac. That is as far as we made it before he had both of his bracelets full! We did not make ours to keep as Martha suggests, but I think that is a fun idea as I became rather attached to mine.

And yes, if you were wondering, I am totally freckled. And…no matter what they tell you…freckles won’t grow together to form a great looking tan. Let’s here it for freckles!

Feature Friday-Back To School Toddler Activities

Today’s Feature Friday is just a little different. Instead of featuring one blogger with tons of great ideas, we are featuring a bunch of bloggers with one or two of their good ideas. (Maybe it is because I was lazy unpacking from my lake trip and did not get the interview questions out, maybe not.)

Back to School is upon us and with the older kids going off to school you may be left with just one little one at home. They will sense the excitement (or dread) and may want to be a part of it. Here are some fun ideas for back to school activities for toddlers.

Color File Folder Games from Kiz Club (via ABC and 123) They have TONS of resources!

Alphabet Sewing Cards from Kids Sewing projects (via ABC and 123)-Print your own alphabet sewing cards to teach fine motor skills and letters at the same time.

Nature Bracelet from ABC an 123-Take a nature walk with a “sticky bracelet.” Wrap a length of masking tape, sticky-side out, to your child’s wrist like a bracelet. As you walk and collect earthy treasures, stick them to the bracelet to keep and display.

People on the Bus from Toddlertoddler.com-print out the bus and have them color it yellow. Then, let them choose pics of family members to put in the windows


Alphabet Bugs from Toddlertoddler.com-tape each letter to a body part or furniture item that starts with that letter and ask them to help get the bugs off. Each letter they take off you tell them the letter and the name of the item it was stuck to.

Free File Folder Games from File Folder Heaven-Games to teach size, rhyming and more.

Color Matching Cards from Homeschool Creations-Perfect for teaching the little ones their colors. I love vibrant pictures!

Cheap Chick-JCPenney Coupon/OfficeMax

Want a great deal? I just found one today at JCPenney. I don’t usually shop there, but I got a $10 off a purchase of at least $10 coupon and figured I could not pass that up. If you did not get one you can use the code GET4BTS online. I believe it goes through Sat, Aug 22nd.

I found this cute sweatshirt for my 20 month old and snatched it up. We have a thing for orange. There was a lot of clearance items for 75% off and many other sale items.

Here’s the best part. It was $3.19! That’s cheaper than Walmart people!!

I knew it would be cheap with the 40% off sale and the coupon, but as I left the girl said, “You saved $19.” For real?! Oh how I love a deal!

As I walked to my car, I knew I had to share this. I was thinking out loud and said, “cheap” to which my son replied, “cheep, cheep” and pointed to a bird. Thus, Cheap Chick was born. How brilliant I thought I was until I came home, hopped online, and realized tons of other people had this realization way before me. Oh well.
