Nativity Advent

December 5, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 14 Comments

I wanted an advent calendar that would be fun for the kiddos, but also help us keep a Christ centered Christmas. Enter the nativity advent. We add a piece of the nativity everyday until we add the baby Jesus on Christmas. My mom also sent me an email with a scripture for each day so it goes along perfectly!

Here is the scripture advent called “Remember in December.” Just click the thumbnail below. I wish I knew the source, but it just came in an email.

Now for the how-to for the

Nativity Advent

Supplies needed:
  • Cardstock
  • Nativity Stickers (mine were Stickopotamus brand dug out from the depths of my scrapbooking supplies)
  • Scissors
  • Double stick tape
  • Magnets (I cut up the ones that come on phone books)
  • Staples

1. Stick the stickers to the cardstock.

2. Cut them out.

3. Attach magnets to the back with double stick tape.

4. Make a little envelope to house the nativity pieces by stapling together a piece of cardstock.

5. Then, put up one piece a day until Christmas. We put them on the fridge so it would be in the middle of everything. I tried a cookie sheet first, but ha ha, the magnets did not stick.

It will look like this on Christmas day. I am lovin’ our little Nativity advent!

I love this idea. I collect nativities…and I think this should be an addition to the rest of them this year.

    Thanks girl!

We do this too, it’s so fun the boys love it and the twins are getting into it. We have a song, scripture and poem or story that go with ours every night, we call it our Christmas devotional. It’s a great way to end the evening.

What double sided tape do you use? I can’t seem to find stuff that works – and as for the cookie sheet – if you have different varieties, try them all. I have found some that work and some that don”t (I have been know to use cake pans in a pinch as well)
This is a super cute idea! Thanks! This year we are using an advent calender that I found on Sugardoodle that is from lds.about.com and its link is http://www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2382&Itemid=5
and next year I plan to use an advent calendar from the Dec 2003 friend (on pages 24, 25 and 34 and 35 (they put the instructions far behind the illustration) – that is if I don’t use this!!!!! Thanks again!

What a great idea! I love advent calendars but had never thought of doing one involving the nativity scene. What a lovely way to include Jesus in every day leading up to Christmas.

    Thanks for sharing this!

I use the yellow Scotch permanent double sided tape. You can see it in the supplies pic. It has always worked for me.
