Inspired Living the Kitchen Edition #deltafaucetinspired

Do you ever have trouble committing to changes around your home? You want a kitchen update that you love, but don’t want to commit to something that might go out of style next year? I have been dying to make some changes in my kitchen, but admittedly have been a little chicken.

Though I have found a great way to discover what you truly love and how it can all work together. Create an inspiration board full of beautiful inspiring images and then translate that into something that fits in to your time allotment and budget. I’ve created one for the kitchen of my dreams called Inspired Living. Here’s a little sneak peek…

If you like this style, be sure to follow my Inpired Living Pinterest board where you can find the links and original posts for all the images above plus more fabulous kitchen ideas.

The whole plan started with my soon to be installed traditional style Cassidy Touch20 Technology faucet and grew from there. I found that I love the look of the stainless and chrome, gray, aqua, and white. I recently toured our local Parade of Homes and that inspired some of the items that would take my space to a new level like clean white cabinets and stainless steel tile backsplashes. If only I could snap my fingers and have it transformed. Instead, I’ll take it one step at a time and slowly, but surely create the kitchen I adore.

I’ll be sure to keep you up to date as we work on the kitchen, starting with a beautiful new faucet and a few other little changes I have up my sleeves. Do you have any tricks for planning out a room makeover? Do you do make a master plan and bite off a little at a time or go gung ho and change everything all at once?

Delta Touch2O Technology for your kitchen and bathroom is precisely in tune with your every touch. Take the quiz to learn which faucet style best describes you at deltafaucet.com

Mom of Boys: Comic Relief for Moms of the Male Variety

August 18, 2013 By Michelle Barneck 9 Comments

I used to take myself pretty seriously. Then, I had boys and realized that if I did not lighten up and learn to laugh at most situations I would go bonkers. I started writing down things I hear myself or my boys say that I never would have thought I would hear. When I am overwhelmed, I turn to this list for a little comic relief. I hope you enjoy them as we are making Mom of Boys a series on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
Let me explain how this will work. If it has an A by it, it was said by my skinny, karate obsessed 5 1/2 year old. If it has an L by it, it was said by my spunky, snack loving 2 1/2 year old. If there is nothing or an M, it was me. This is in no way meant to be a parenting lesson. Just a little peek into our crazy and at times comical lives.
Mom of boys…things you never thought you’d hear in your home, then you birthed a boy.
  1. Don’t put his toothbrush between your toes.
  2. Please don’t pee on the deck.
  3. You can’t ride the four wheeler in the house.
  4. Ok, I’ll lick your lid.
  5. M: Do you want to do tick tock like a clock? A: No, I want to walk on the ceiling.
  6. You can’t have clay in your bed.
  7. Lay down and stop talking about the carwash.
  8. Get that knife out of the light switch!
  9. M: Amy gave us some zucchini. What should we do with it? Eat it? Make bread? A: Ya! Make bikini bread!
  10. A: Dad, let’s have a pee fight.
  11. Fortune: following inner promptings brings quiet accomplishment. A: Good. Quiet accomplishment is all about being a ninja.
  12. Don’t roll your Uncle Jacob.
  13. Laundry is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Today I got a piece of bark, a feather and a flash drive.
  14. Don’t stand on the blender. It’s not ok.
  15. A: Mom, I am renaming Lincoln President DukeDork. Lincoln, you’re name is now President DukeDork. M: Are you trying to say President Uchtdorf? A: Ya, President Dukedorf.
  16. L: I’m just excited I wear my box undies. My bundies.
  17. You can’t have your hand in your cup when you’re drinking.
  18. Don’t ruin that one, that’s the one you haven’t ruined yet.
  19. Please don’t use your shirt to wipe.
  20. L: Mom, I’m going to water your flowers. M: Using what your water guns? L: This sword (holds up sheeth). M: Um, no let’s not. L: Why? It would be fun.
  21. Don’t put your vegetables on your toes.
  22. A: I would like some eggshell. M: Eggshell? A: Ya, eggshell. M: What? A: That stuff remember. M: Oh..Magic shell? A: Ya.
  23. M: Quit licking your shirt, you’re just making it worse. L: Want me to lick my pants?
  24. Go brush your teeth. Not with a wrench.
  25. A: Mom, you’re my second favorite parent. But, you’re first on the girl’s side.
  26. A: Mom, turn it to the ninja channel. (Lady Gaga Marry the Night comes on the radio.) Ya, this is the one I’m talking about. (It plays the chorus.) I think I heard this on a movie. M: Pretty sure you didn’t. A:Ya, the one with the dragon with two heads. She sings it walking in the woods.
  27. I didn’t know you could stab with a necklace.
  28. Hey, get out of the garbage.
  29. Why would you try to poke a hole in the couch?
  30. Don’t pick your nose with a dirty hand.

15 Baking Soda Uses That May Surprise You

Household:
1. Deodorize Wastebaskets – Apply regularly as you add to the container and when you empty it wash with a solution of 1 cup baking soda per gallon of water.
2. Cleaning Furniture – Clean and remove marks (even crayon) from walls and painted furniture by applying baking soda to a damp sponge and rubbing lightly. Wipe of with a clean, dry cloth.
3. Musty Towels – Add 1/2 cup baking soda to the rinse cycle.

Kitchen:
4. Dirty Microwave – Sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge and gently wipe the inside and outside to clean and deodorize. To keep odors away place a box of baking soda in the microwave between uses.
5. Dishwashers – Sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the dishwasher to absorb lingering food odors.
6. Fruit and Vegetable Scrub – Sprinkle baking soda on a vegetable brush,, scrub and rinse. For soft skinned or leafy produce, sprinkle baking soda in a bowl of water, add produce, agitate and rinse.
7. Sponges – Soak smelly sponges in a solution of four tablespoons baking soda dissolved in one quart of warm water.
8. Deodorizing freezer – To keep foods and ice cubes tasting like they should, use the ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda Fridge-N-Freezer Odor Absorber and replace every 30 days. The flow-thru vents expose twice the baking soda to absorb odors that make foods taste funky.

Cooking:
9. Mashed Potatoes – add a pinch of baking soda to make them fluffier.
10. Tomatoes – cut the acidic level of tomato sauce or chili by adding a pinch of baking soda.

Hygiene:
11. Hair Care – sprinkle a small amount of baking soda into your palm along with your shampoo. Shampoo as normal and rinse well avoiding eye area. The baking soda helps remove the residue styling products leave behind.
12. Brushes and Combs – Remove natural build-up and hair product residue by soaking in a solution of one teaspoon baking soda in a small basin of water. Rinse and allow to dry.
13. Smelly Sneakers – Shake a little baking soda in them between wearings to absorb odor-causing moisture while neutralizing odors. Tap out excess baking soda before wearing again. Use once a week or more if you wear them often.

Garage and Outdoor:
14. Grungy Grills – Sprinkle dry baking soda on a damp brush, scrub as needed, and rinse clean. For greasy stains, scrub with a wire brush and baking soda paste made of three parts baking soda to one part warm water. Rinse Thoroughly.
15. Oil and Grease Stains on Garage Floor – Sprinkle baking soda on the spot and scrub with a wet brush to clean up light duty spills.

Pets:
16. Dry Shampoo for Dogs – To freshen up between baths, give dry fur a light sprinkle, use a brush to work it through, and thoroughly remove.

BONUS TIP: We recently had a week where my son got sick and it traveled through the rest of us like clockwork. I swear every sheet we owned was in the wash. I loaded a “sick load” (to spare you from being more graphic) in the wash with the my usual detergent, some color bleach, and turned on the extra rinse to be sure it would come out clean and sanitary. It was bad people. So bad that every time I walked by the bathroom that leads to the laundry room I looked for something rank in the garbage or a non-flushed toilet. Nope it was the laundry…post wash. Gross! Luckily, ARM & HAMMER had supplied me some of their Ultra Power 4X Concentrated detergent to try out. Not only did it kick the ick, but it came out smelling fresh and delightful using half the amount of detergent! Seriously, I pulled it out and buried my face in it to be sure. I have a new laundry superhero! Use it, for real, you will not regret it.
