Scrap Wood Pumpkins with The Contractor Chronicles

August 25, 2014 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

Hello Little Tipsy Readers!! It is good to be here again sharing a fun little project while Michelle is out with her sweet new baby! I know Michelle in real life so I am so excited for her and cannot wait to hold her little one! For those that don’t know me, I am Amanda and I blog alongside my husband over at The Contractor Chronicles. We love to share our knowledge of tools, our fun projects and our house remodels with our readers! Since we are going into cooler fall weather, I wanted to share a fun and simple Fall project that anyone can make with wood from your scrap pile, scrap wood pumpkins!

All you need for this project is a couple pieces of 2×4 wood and 2×6 wood! I found both in my scrap pile – but feel free to swing by Home Depot and grab a one of each a make a few of these for your home! Cut your pieces down – I cut two 2×4’s at 6 inches and two 2×6’s at 7.5 inches. I just did what I thought looked best – but make some bigger and smaller if you want too!

I used Rustoleum Cinnamon and sprayed the wood down.

When they were dry, I used my cornercat and sanded the edges a bit.

Lastly – and the thing that makes the pumpkin – I tied the whole thing up with green ric rac! I love it! It makes it look wavy – sort of like a real pumpkin!

I tied the top in a bow to look like “leaves.”

And you’re done! So simple but super cute!!

Candy Birthday Wreath with Crazy Little Projects

August 22, 2014 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Hi friends! I am happy to be visiting while Michelle snuggles her new little baby! (Though I would rather be snuggling a new little baby like her!) I am Amber from Crazy Little Projects where I show off all of the craziness that keeps me busy-sewing, baking, crafting and having fun!

Now, Fall is coming and here at A Little Tipsy Michelle is featuring Fall projects. When I think of Fall I often think of wreaths. But-I confess I am not that big of a wreath fan. (That almost seems to be blasphemy in the blogging world!) I AM a fan of candy though. And birthdays. So I decided to take the classic wreath and add a twist…of candy! Here’s a Candy Birthday Wreath:

Candy Birthday Wreath

I did a candy birthday cake a few months back and it was such a big hit and I have had so much fun giving candy birthday cakes to friends and family that I thought it would be fun to try this wreath.

Let’s make one!

Candy Birthday Wreath:

Supplies Needed:

  • Wreath Form
  • Large bow
  • Hot glue
  • Candy-get a variety
  • Small piece of ribbon

Instructions:

I started by gluing the big bow to the top of the wreath:

Then, simply begin gluing candy to the wreath all the way around overlapping as needed.

If you are using chocolate just be careful that the glue isn’t so hot that is is melting the chocolate.

One the back add a small loop of ribbon to hang the wreath. You can pin or hot glue it in place:

And then hang it somewhere for the birthday kid to see!

Maple Bacon Cookies with Snap

August 20, 2014 By Michelle Barneck Leave a Comment

Hi Tipsy readers, my name is Tauni. I run a daily site called Snap and several times a year host a competition called So You Think You’re Crafty.

I’ve known Michelle for quite a while. Since we live fairly close, she’s one of the first bloggers I met in real life. I have had fun watching her little family grow…especially because she’s running a home full of boys just like me!

I don’t know what dinner is like over at Michelle’s house, but in our house things can get a little bit crazy. Every once in a while I throw up my arms and we either settle on having pizza delivered or breakfast for dinner.

Truth be told, I am actually a huge fan of breakfast for dinner. Breakfast foods are my favorite. The other day while dreaming of ways to incorporate more breakfast food into my life, I decided to come up with a breakfast cookie and maple bacon cookies were born…

These maple bacon cookies consist of a nice soft cake cookie, topped with a thin maple glaze and crumbled bacon. It’s like a full breakfast in every bite!

In addition to the delicious taste, these little bites of yum are super-easy to make.

Ingredients:
1 yellow cake mix
2 eggs
1/4 c. softened butter

3 c. confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp. maple extract
1/2 c. milk

bacon

Directions:
Prepare crunchy bacon bits (I used three large strips of bacon cut down into small pieces).

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/4 softened butter. Roll dough into one inch balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

While cookies are baking in the oven, mix confectioners sugar, maple extract and milk until sugar has dissolved.

Drizzle maple glaze over cookies and top with crumbled bacon.

Your mouth will thank you…

Hands down my favorite cookie recipe is still my easy gingerbread – it’s been pinned over 100,000 times!

Mom of Boys: Comic Relief for Moms of the Male Variety {Round 13}

August 17, 2014 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

About a year ago, I began jotting down things I hear around the house from my boys because, well, they make me laugh. In an attempt to give others a giggle, it’s now turned in to a full on Mom of Boys series on the 3rd Sunday of each month. It gives me a good reminder each month why I love my silly boys so much and it’s so fun to look back on months past as they grow up. And now I have one more boy to add to the mix, though he won’t be saying much at first so you won’t see him show up here for a while. If you missed our first Mom of Boys posts be sure to go back!

This is in no way meant to be a parenting lesson. Just a little peek into our crazy and at times comical lives.

Mom of boys…things you never thought you’d hear in your home, then you birthed a boy.

Let’s explain how this will work and who things were said by…

A = my skinny, karate obsessed, 6 1/2 year old
L = my spunky, snack loving, 3 1/2 year old
J = my geeky chic husband
M = me aka mom of boys

M: That man is shaving his head while he drives. That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.
A: Not weirder than a pirate turning into a monkey singing a little silly song.

L: Why are we going this way?
M: Because we need to take some money to the boy who mows the lawn so we’re driving through the neighborhood.
L: A hood is a hat.
M: You’re right.

L: Aiden, my undies are cooler than yours.
A: No, mine are dragon.
L: Well dragons are a bit cool.
A: Well daddy likes dragons and he doesn’t like lightning McQueen that much.

A: How come the only place nectarines are having a party is in my stomach?

Have your kids made you laugh lately? What comical or off the wall things have you said or overheard your kids say? Share in the comments and we will choose our favorites to share in our Mom of Boys post on September 21st.
