DIY Photo Booth

November 8, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 5 Comments

We celebrated my son’s first birthday on Saturday. {tear} One year is a big milestone so we always go all out for the first party. We had a big gathering with entire families so I wanted a lot of activities that all ages could enjoy. The theme was “Little Guy in a Tie” so of course a photo booth with lots of props would be perfect. But of course I am what some might call, ahem, cheap. So, of course ours was a DIY Photo Booth. It was a huge hit and well worth the effort!
DIY Photo Booth

Giant Poloroid:
2 sheets foam core
Exacto knife
Clear Packing tape

DIY Photo Booth Props:

Mustaches & Lips:
Photo Booth Printables
Diguise Kit Printable
Funny glasses:
3D glasses from the movie theatre
Clown and Nose glasses from dollar tree
Hats:
Courtesy of my parents collection
I had the hubs hang the poloroid in front of a chalkboard (our party was held at our church so we could fit everyone) so we would have a plain background. Would have preferred he use fishing line rather than bright blue rope, but we’ll just call it kitschy.

Set up the props and let the guests have at it!

We will be enjoying these DIY photo booth pics for years to come! Now to post and tag on Facebook. 😉

Make a Memory {Make a Game}

September 5, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

It’s week 14, the last and final week of the Make a Memory series! It is so important to create lasting memories with our families and this has been such a fun way to get ideas for fun traditions to start with our own families. So, let’s dive right in and see how Kara from Creations by Kara and her family make a memory!

Hi Little Tipsy readers, I’m Kara from Creations by Kara. I am so happy to be here today as part of Michelle’s awesome Make a Memory Series!

We have four very active boys ages 7-16 (and a baby girl). We are always looking for ways to keep them busy on days when the weather doesn’t make for much fun outside. A few years ago we came up with the idea of letting them create their own games. It has been a huge hit, and we have so much fun seeing what they can come up with. As a bonus, this activity costs nothing, we just use what we have around the house. Yay for free entertainment!

When we first started, they would make Bingo and Memory games. One year they made a Don’t Bug Daddy game for Father’s Day. And yes, some of the dads happen to be aliens. 😉 It is similar to “Don’t Eat Pete”, and can be adapted to any holiday. I’m including the instructions at the bottom of the post in case you’ve never played it before.

Then they got a little older and started designing board games. Sometimes they just take turns drawing them on the dry erase board. We play, then erase it and let the next person have a turn making up the game.

When they want to make a game that will last for more than one day, they draw it on cardboard. My 10 year old spent hours coming up with an elaborate game that uses dice and playing cards. We have spent many Sunday afternoons playing it, and it really is just as fun as some of the games on the market.

Not only do these DIY games foster creativity and provide lots of family fun, but they are a great self-esteem booster for younger kids. My two youngest boys just beam with pride when they see the family playing “their” game. Especially when an older brother tells them what an awesome job they did.

I hope you’ll all give DIY games a try in your family. Thanks for having me Michelle!

You can all drop by and visit me at Creations by Kara anytime. I’ve always got a batch of goodies ready to share. 🙂

Don’t Bug Daddy Instructions:

Place a small piece of candy on each dad. (We use M&M’s.) One person leaves the room. The remaining players agree on a Secret Dad. When everyone is ready, the player comes back into the room and begins picking up and eating the candy one piece at a time. When the player tried to pick up the candy on the secret Santa, everyone yells, “DON’T BUG DADDY!” Choose a different person to leave the room. The player that just had a turn picks the next secret Daddy. In addition to this Don’t Bug Daddy version, we also have a “Don’t Eat Santa”, and “Don’t Eat the Easter Bunny”. Kids of just about all ages love this game!

A big thanks to Kara for such a fun idea! We made a personalized Life Game once. It was really fun! So what did you think of the Make a Memory series? Did you find a new tradition to start with your family? Thanks to all who participated!

Make a Memory {Family Cheer}

August 29, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Here we are, week 13 of the Make a Memory series. Each Monday through Labor Day I will feature a special family tradition from one of my favorite bloggers. It is so important to create lasting memories with our families and this will be a fun way to get ideas for fun traditions we can start with our own families. So let’s dive right in and see how Kiki from Kiki Creates and her family make a memory!

Hi! My name is Kiki from Kiki Creates. I am so happy to be here at A Little Tipsy this morning.

I am a mother to 3 beautiful kids and a wife to one awesome husband. They keep me sane, cheer me on when I get down, but most of all are they are my biggest sources of inspiration. Kiki Creates is my little place in blogland filled with tutorials, free printables and the inspiration where it all comes from.

I am loving this series. Traditions have always been a fun part of my life…from the little ones growing up to the ones I do now with my family. It certainly has been a fun way to grow closer together.

What seems like a long time ago, when I only had one child, we came upon something that was really funny to us. My husband and I watched a youth group at a summer camp come together and cheer “Sure Love Ya!”..and my husband and I watched and laughed at them. My son also watched and in his own way asked to do the cheer, so we did it…and it stuck. As each child has come into our family we have taught them the way of our family.

A few years ago, we had our family pictures taken and had this crazy family cheer photographed. I think she definitely caught the fun we have while doing it:

I know this is such a silly tradition, but we have used it in times when we needed to come together quickly..or right after we have accomplished something amazing together. And I can’t help but LOVE the picture of our hands all in a pile…after all, that’s how I want to remember my little family..all piled up and working together! I’m sure this is a tradition that will never die.

Just recently I made a print out of our tradition to place in my kids rooms..so they can read and remember how much we truly do love each other! Feel free to take one or both. Simply right click on the image and save or print as you wish!

Thanks so much for having me, Michelle. This was a fun way to remember the traditions we have in our family..and a treat to read about all the others.

——————————————————————————
I love it! So great to have it documented in pictures as well! We have a family cheer too. My brother made it up when he was like 6 and I have carried it on with my own family. We say, “Together, Forever, through all eternity. Barneck, Barneck, Barneck family!” and then do a group hug. My little guy loves saying it each night before bedtime. Thanks Kiki for sharing another great way to make a memory!

We have decided to truncate our feed to help protect against stolen content. I apologize for any inconvenience. Please love us anyway. 🙂
