Young Women Personal Progress Basket

May 1, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 7 Comments

This is an idea we started in YW last year to recognize those who are working on their personal progress. Each week we invite those who have completed an experience or project to come to the front during opening exercises and tell what they did. It is a great way to recognize those making progress and to motivate those who may not be as excited about it.

Those who stand up to report also get to take a “treat” out of the basket. It is full of things we find for under a $1 like, vinyl cutouts, nail polish, candy, notepads, shower gel, etc.

Each month we change the ribbon on the front of the basket to match the color of the value for that month. We used to coordinate all the gifts in the basket to match that color also, but have since given up on it so we could use up our stock.

I think the girls really like it and it is really fun to see what people have been working on. When girls complete the entire value they are presented with the new scripture marker ribbons too.

YW Birthday Gift Idea

April 22, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Ok, so I shared this idea long ago, but finally took pics and got the saying for you. It’s only like a few months later. 😉 But, I thought they were cute so I wanted to share anyway.

The note says (by Diana Lee):
“Be strong
Be of good courage
Be not afraid
Follow in HIS footsteps and thou will not be dismayed.”

I love how it ties in to this years mutual theme Joshua 1:9.

They could be a fun tuck in treat for camp.

April Visiting Teaching Handout: Seeking and Receiving Personal Revelation

April 5, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

A brand new month which means a brand new Visiting Teaching Message. This month’s theme centers on Seeking and Receiving Personal Revelation. For my April Visiting Teaching Handout I used a quote from President Boyd K. Packer. I may be biased because he is my Great Uncle, but I just love his words here!

free “Wish I were taller” font from Kevin & Amanda.

I love how President Packer says that inspiration is more of a feeling than a sound. I think sometimes we think inspiration and revelation will come to us as a voice in our head, but it can come so many more way: feelings of peace, warmth, happiness, etc. Revelation does not come the same way to everyone and may come differently each time to the same person.

In the recent YW auxillary training, Elaine S. Dalton (General Young Women’s President) expressed that she receives revelation differently each time. We have to keep spiritual things a priority and make sure we have some time to ponder so we don’t miss these promptings. Sister Dalton also said, “Don’t get caught in the thick of thin things.” I love that! It is so easy to let our days get filled with small things that sometimes the big things slide.

I hope you were all uplifted by General Conference this weekend as I was. Our leaders are so wise and what wonderful messages they shared with us. I look forward to the future with faith and hope and a renewed sense of just how important my influence as a Mother and faithful daughter of God can be!

LDS General Conference Easter Activities

March 24, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 29 Comments

With LDS General Conference on Easter Sunday this year, I thought it would be fun to do a coloring page and activity with an Easter theme, but using words kids would hear in the conference talks. We are always in need of multiple activities to keep the kiddos entertained.

This first LDS General Conference Easter themed coloring page is meant for older kids who can read, but younger ones could just color it or get help from mom and dad.

Click on the pic above to make it bigger to print.

Here is a little General Conference Easter egg hunt activity for the smaller ones who need the picture help. They can color the eggs each time they hear a word in a talk and tape them in the Easter basket. My little one loves anything to do with tape. You could even do an incentive at the end (like candies or nickels) based on the number of eggs they have in their basket.

You are welcome to print and use what you like. Have a great Conference/Easter weekend!
