Young Women Personal Progress Basket

May 1, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 7 Comments

This is an idea we started in YW last year to recognize those who are working on their personal progress. Each week we invite those who have completed an experience or project to come to the front during opening exercises and tell what they did. It is a great way to recognize those making progress and to motivate those who may not be as excited about it.

Those who stand up to report also get to take a “treat” out of the basket. It is full of things we find for under a $1 like, vinyl cutouts, nail polish, candy, notepads, shower gel, etc.

Each month we change the ribbon on the front of the basket to match the color of the value for that month. We used to coordinate all the gifts in the basket to match that color also, but have since given up on it so we could use up our stock.

I think the girls really like it and it is really fun to see what people have been working on. When girls complete the entire value they are presented with the new scripture marker ribbons too.

That’s a good idea. We are having a very difficult time getting our girls to even do PP.

This is a fabulous idea! Wish I’d thought of it when I was in YW a couple years ago. 🙂

I like the idea of having the girls stand up and talk about what they did. I may have them start doing that!
    Thanks!

We do this, but with candy bars. At first I was opposed to “bribing” the girls, but my counselor insisted and it has been a huge success. In the beginning it was about getting candy but that has since changed into the girls being excited about doing their personal progress and a lot of them come up and report and don’t even take candy anymore. We all like to hear each week what they’ve done, too.

We do something similar but instead of having the girls stand up and talk about what they did, we have them write it in a little notebook. We never seem to have enough time for the lesson so this way I can keep my PP tracker updated, they get a treat (we have candy too unless it’s fast Sunday), and we can keep things moving. I like the sharing idea though! Maybe we can work that in…

This is a great idea. Like others, our girls need motivation to do their Personal Progress. Thank you for sharing. I will be making a basket.

    Again thank you.
