DIY Necklace: Quite a Spectacle

Leap day does not come often, so I wanted to share something special, that you probably won’t see often and is well, quite a spectacle. It is quirky and in true Tipsy fashion totally affordable DIY style! It’s a DIY necklace that makes quite a statement, but what else would you expect from a fun Anthro Knock off?

I shared this about a week ago on Brassy Apple as a part of her fun accessories series, but thought I would share here for anyone who missed it.

Anthropologie version: $498 (no longer available) My DIY necklace version: $7.50
That’s a 98.5% savings. ;)

DIY Necklace Supplies:
6 pairs of reading glasses (dollar store)
Glasses screwdriver
8-10 Jump Rings 12 mm
Chain

1. Gather your glasses and remove all stickers and tags. Use a tiny screwdriver to remove all the screws and remove the frames. Lay six pairs of glasses in a pattern that you like to prepare them to be put together.

2. Connect three pairs of glasses by placing the jump rings through the screw holes. Do this twice so you have two sets of three pairs of glasses.

3. Now connect the sets of glasses with three jump rings so the bottom of the necklace will be more rounded.

4. Add your chain. Use jump rings if it is just a chain. Mine was the chain to an old pocket watch so I just looped it through one side and hooked it on the other.

Now rock your new DIY necklace on and see what a spectacle you can make! And hey if you need reading glasses, you’ll never be short a pair!

DIY Under $5

So things will be slightly different for this week’s party. I was in Maui last week and you pretty much can’t do anything for under $5 in Hawaii so I will be looking to those features from our last party to fill in for me. ;)

You may notice a trend here…accessorizing.

Key Necklace from The Letter Four
Anyone have an old VW key lying around? It just wouldn’t be the same with any other!

Pleated Cuffs from Every Crafty Endeavor
I especially love the blue patterned one!

Patchwork Bible Cover from At Home with Mrs H
Striped Nails from Fit Crafty Stylish and Happy
Love those stripes with the heart!

Pop Tab Bracelets from Candy’s Clothes Closet
I saw a belt made like this once. So cute!

What have you been up to?

I enjoy your $5 projects so much that I decided to add an addition link section for anything under $15! That’s right. It will open up a place to show additional projects that can’t be purchased with an Abe Lincoln, but are still totally affordable! I can’t wait to see more from you!

Please remember:

  • Only link to your own projects that cost you $5 or less (price does not have to include items you had on hand) or $15 or less in the 2nd section.
  • You can link past projects that fit the dollar limit, but please only link each project one time to one DIY Under $5 party. Do not link the same project week after week.
  • No linking giveaways or items for sale
  • Please link back so others can join the party and so you have the opportunity to be featured on Saturday!

Blogiversary Bash Giveaways

I had a lot of questions regarding the Blogiversary Bash Giveaways so I wanted to do a quick post to let you know I hear you.

I know the new Rafflecopter giveaway form was confusing and some could not see it. I found out that Rafflecopter only shows the form on the home page for the most recent giveaway. The rest are hidden, but will be there if you go directly to the post. You can show all the forms on the home page, but it slows it down, so I am opting not to with 9 giveaways open.

Unfortunately, any entries in the comments will not count. You must enter through the rafflecopter form so if your entry is in the comments, make sure to go back and use the form or it will not count.

Here are links to all the giveaways in case you missed any of them.

Our sponsors were so generous and I don’t want anyone to miss out!

Most of the giveaways will be open until 10 pm MST tonight, so come and enter quick!  Pick Your Plum will be open until tomorrow because the widget malfunctioned so I want to give you a little extra time on that one. Winners will be announced Tuesday evening.

If you still have concerns either comment here or email me and I will do my best to help.
