Fast Microwave Clean Up Trick

I guess this might be the start of a spring cleaning series of posts. I wanted to post my microwave clean up trick in response to a great question from Kara on the Range hood post. I have not tried goo gone on my microwave, but what I have tried is water. Yep, plain old tap water. Many of you probably already know this one, but if you don't , YOU SHOULD!

Fill a mug about halfway with water. Microwave it until it boils, I usually do about 3 minutes. Pull out the mug and wipe with paper towels. The steam from the boiling water makes wiping all that gunk out a snap.

I have also heard others putting a slice of lemon or some lemon juice in the water to give it a nice fresh scent. I have not tried this one, but I want to.

My husband has one that's similar; he gets a washcloth wet, and microwaves it for a minute or two, and it does the same thing :D The steam escapes from the washcloth and loosens all the gunk :D

Awesome! Thanks. It's going to take boiling a LOT of water. :)

It's close to midnight when I write this. Just tried your tip. It works.

My 6-year old heard me, came down from bed and said: "Daddy, stop eating junk food."

Oh, that is a good tip. I knew that water steamed it up, but I never thought of wiping it down after. I will have to remember this!!

I do this same thing, but I use 1/4 cup of vinegar instead of water! Removes the food, stains and any smells! Works awesome!

I use a bowl with lemon bits in it. Slices, or whatever's left over from using a lemon. Works great, except on burnt-in popcorn smoke...
