I Am Talented?! Who Knew.

July 7, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 4 Comments

Thank you to Yahoo! Mail for sponsoring this post about staying connected. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

I love blogging. I love how it keeps me connected to the outside world as a SAHM. I love the new friends I have met through blogging. I love being able to share ideas with all of you and marvel over those of others. But, I have to admit, sometimes I get overwhelmed. I see an amazing sewing project or a piece of fabulous re-finished furniture and start wondering if I measure up. I had a slump like this a few months ago. I started comparing myself to others and it got depressing quickly.

I opened up my email for my end of the night scan and found this in my box:

“I just have to tell you that I am in LOVE with your project! It is my absolute favorite out of all of them! I am totally going to do this one. Props to you! I am so glad that you are part of our creative collaboration. You really are incredibly talented. That’s all. “

It was from Jonie, a member of Point of View. She had not known me long (we chatted for a few minutes at a cookie exchange a few months earlier), nor did she know me well, but her message changed me. There was one particular word that struck me, talented. I had never thought of myself as talented. Creative, sure. A little wacky, yes. But talented? I was so honored that she chose that particular adjective.

She did not have to take the time to email me. She could have left it in a blog comment or just kept it to herself. But she didn’t. She was excited about something I did and wanted to share. I will be forever grateful that she did.

I challenge you to email someone you admire and tell them why. Let them know what you love about them and make their day like Jonie made mine.

Heck you could even do it through messenger. See they’re online, shoot them a sincere compliment. It’s as easy as that!

Feature Friday: Ameroonie Designs

May 13, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

Hello Tipsy Friends! I’m Amy from Ameroonie Designs where I blog about life and the crafts that keep me going.

I’m the mom to 4 awesome kids who range in age from 9 years old to 2. I have a degree in Biology and spent time after college working in a forensic toxicology lab. There are times I miss working and hanging out with my great friends there, but I wouldn’t trade my full time mom gig for anything. I did find I was missing the challenge of learning new things and pushing myself, and lucky for me I found blogging and the challenge of coming up with new and interesting projects to try.

I’d love to introduce you to some of my favorite projects:

Wallet Tutorial
This wallet tutorial is great for birthday gifts, party favors or just giving kids one more place to stash their cash.

Side Tie Pillow

This fun pillow is a twist on an envelope closure pillow- the back becomes the front with the addition of these fun and fancy ties!

Removable Embellishment

This removable embellishment makes switching out inspiring quotes and keeping them fancy at the same time a breeze!

I am so thrilled to be over here hanging out with you today. Feel free to stop by my place anytime- I’d love to have you.

—————————————————————————

Great stuff huh! I have a great need for those pillows! I got to hang with cute Amy at the Creative Estates conference and she is even more awesome in person! I have it on good authority that Amy also makes super cute bags with matchy match accessories. 😉 Thanks for swappin’ it up Amy!

Creative Estates: Please Won’t You be my Neighbor?

April 13, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 10 Comments

Last the best of all the game? So I know you may have seen something around bloggy town about Creative Estates, but I wanna be like the cool kids in the neighborhood, so here’s my take.

Let’s take a trip through the lens of my girl Stephanie (the resident non-crafter) because, well, she is used to me stealing her pics and they are 100% better than mine. 😉 BTW Steph, how did I not get a pic with you? Disgrace.

Hello my lovelies, having fun! Missed the memo on the white cardi.
Jazz hands girls!

From L to R: Stacy {Not Just a Housewife}, Jamielyn {I Heart Naptime}, Becca {Blue Cricket Design}, Amy {The Idea Room, Me, Stephanie {Somewhat Simple}, and Amy {Ameroonie Designs}.

Hey everyone, let’s act like there is a plane up there…oh look, there is. Again missing the white cardi.

Amy {Ameroonie Designs}, Kim {Today’s Creative Blog}, Leanne {Organize and Decorate Everything}, Me

A little time with my real life neighbor Amanda {Every Crafty Endeavor}. She kept Stacy and I enthralled with her stories on the plane.

And here’s where we transition in to my pics. Somehow my face has the fantastic ability to transform (aka mangle) any time the camera points in my general direction. It is a fantastic talent I possess. Let’s not hide it under a bushel. (Keep in mind I was aware and supposedly posing for each of these.) Awesome sauce.

I know, I know, you wish you could develop such a sought after talent.

Thankfully, I was able to reign it in for a few pics .

Heather {Whipperberry}, Me, Emily {Whipperberry} , Danielle {Whipperberry}

Jamielyn {I Heart Naptime} and just imagine Linda {Craftaholics Anonymous} here with us. (I am totally kicking myself for not getting a pic with you!!)
We had mini parties in what was deemed “the closet.” Nursing mothers unite. It was actually a pretty plush little room. “Closet” was our cover up. 😉

Amy {Positively Splendid}, Lara aka Ellie G {Less Cake More Frosting}

Now for some pics I swiped from Momendeavors.

Me, Jen {Tatertots and Jello}, Stephanie {Somewhat Simple}, Amy {The Idea Room}, Shelley {House of Smith’s} aka party contained in human form

The chickas of room 333. Lara aka Ellie G {Less Cake More Frosting}, Char {Crap I’ve Made} I thank them for counteracting all the Cadbury mini eggs with all the laughs! Don’t you love how I look like one of those nocturnal squirrels. Gotta get those eyes under control!

There were so many awesome people I did not even get to meet, let alone get pics with. There are a few more pics of some fabulous chicks on Facebook. Kim at Today’s Creative Blog has a link up where you can check out all the awesome attendees.

And guess what, it was more than just a party…I came home with some really good lessons and realizations.

  • How to tweet from my Iphone
  • I need to learn how to apply eyeliner

But, really…

  • You will never regret behaving appropriately
  • There is no competition to be me
  • If I’m putting up a front and so are you, what kind of conversation are we really having
  • Not everyone will love you and you will not be everyone’s favorite blog
  • You need to achieve your own level of success
  • Find what your thing is and do it well
  • There is enough internet for everyone!!

It was just really nice to be surrounded by people who get it, you know! Because…

Blogging is like curling, you don’t get it unless you do it.

We blog people gotta stick together you know!
So, won’t you be, won’t you be, please won’t you be my neighbor?
