$50 My Vinyl Direct GIVEAWAY + Eyes That Glow

October 18, 2012 By Michelle Barneck 2 Comments

I love vinyl as much as the next craft supply hoarding girl. I have a stash. We shall not embellish on the details of said stash. Though I did recently make a fantastic discovery. Have you heard of My Vinyl Direct? I just received my first order and am super excited about it! It included glow in the dark vinyl!! This stuff is sooo fun!

We decided to put it to good use cutting spooky eyes and placing them around the house on the piano, grandfather clock and in the windows. My five year old is obsessed with decorating for Halloween. No really, everywhere we go he either comments on the decor or asked the closest person why they have not decorated for Halloween. Today while taking a field trip to the hospital to have lunch with Daddy we passed by a room with a skeleton and he got all excited about their spooky decor. It was the community education room, pretty sure it’s there all year.

BTW, here’s a hint, glow in the dark is thicker than regular vinyl because it has shiny metallic back to help the glowing so set your craft cutter accordingly.
Anyway, back to the good stuff…
My Vinyl Direct has much more than just glow in the dark, though I am still geeking out over it. They have 36 matte colors, 28 gloss, chalkboard vinyl, dry erase vinyl, 32 colors of iron on transfer, and transfer tape to make sure they are all placed perfectly! They also sell in four different sizes as to be compatible no matter which craft machine you have. You can check out all the details and order here.

You want some right? Of course you do.
Well, My Vinyl Direct is awesome and wants you to try it out so they are giving away a $50 gift card to one lucky Tipsy reader!

Doily Pumpkin Treat Bag

October 25, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

Let’s face it this time of year is all about the treats. So grab your favorite and let’s dress it up with this cute Doily Pumpkin Treat Bag!

This is a fun one for kiddos to help with if they have a soft touch. Tell them it’s a sewing card of sorts. 😉

Doily Pumpkin Treat Bag

Supplies Needed:
  • Pumpkin doilies (Dollar Tree)
  • Thin Black Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Candy

1. Cut your skinny ribbon in half lengthwise to make it even thinner. Burn the raw edge with your lighter to stop fraying. Trust me on this one, unless you want a hairy pumpkin and one strand of ribbon left at the end.

2. Take two doilies and place them with the white sides together. Weave the ribbon in and out through the holes. Put the candy in when you still have about two inches left to “sew” shut.

3. Finish weaving and tie off in a bow.

Fun filler ideas:

  • Candy Corn
  • Homemade pumpkin seeds
  • Reese’s Pieces

They could be really fun at each place setting for Thanksgiving too!

Easy Halloween Decor

October 11, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 1 Comment

I have to admit I pulled out my bin of Halloween decor and was not loving it. I wanted a mostly black and white theme with pattern and texture and it was no where to be found. So, what to do but get to work. Lucky for me, I have a lot of really talented friends so I was able to get my decor put together in a snap. I am all about an easy Halloween this year and there were a ton of super quick big impact projects to be had.

Here is a shelf in my front room…

  • Candelabra: Target $2.50
  • Free printable Halloween Subway Art from the lovely ladies at Eighteen25
  • Drippy Candles: made a few years ago, melt black ones and drip on orange
  • Happy Halloween: 50 cents after Halloween last year (Dollar Tree)
  • hung on pillar candle atop candlestick, both on hand
  • Houndstooth Pumpkin: Houndstooth duck tape ($4 w coupon) atop a $ store pumpkin
  • Spider web: huge pack for $1

Let’s point out that the whole easy Halloween shelf cost less than $10. Yes sir.

My piano was looking quite barren, so she too got an easy Halloween spookover. Pardon the worst lighting ever.

  • Wicked Pumpkin: $ store pumpkin painted plum w/ chipboard stickers
  • Spider Web Plate copied from the fabulous Char of Crap I’ve Made
  • Apothecary vile: old diffuser vase with green and purple candies
  • Patterned pumpkin: fabric mod podge $ store pumpkin on a plum candlestick like Love Sweet Love
  • more web

Then, I took a lesson from The Simple Things and scattered the rest of my spider rings around the room.

Do you have any fun and easy Halloween tricks?
