DIY Under $5

September 21, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 5 Comments

With fall upon us I decided to make a fun game for the kiddos for this week’s DIY under $5 project. I had everything I needed at home so it was FREE!

Pumpkin Game

Now it’s time to link up your projects!

I enjoy so much your $5 projects that I decided to add an addition link section for anything under $15! That’s right. It will open up a place to show additional projects that can’t be purchased with an Abe Lincoln, but are still totally affordable! I can’t wait to see more from you!

Please remember:

  • Only link to your own projects that cost you $5 or less (price does not have to include items you had on hand) or $15 or less in the 2nd section.
  • You can link past projects that fit the dollar limit, but please only link each project one time to one DIY Under $5 party. Do not link the same project week after week.
  • No linking giveaways or items for sale
  • Please link back so others can join the party and so you have the opportunity to be featured on Saturday!

Pumpkin Game

September 20, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 7 Comments

A fun little activity for fall could be disguised in your scrap fabric! This cute pumpkin game uses things you probably already have lying around the house and only takes a few minutes to throw together.

PUMPKIN GAME

Supplies:

{3 Fabric Pumpkins}

  • Scrap Fabric (three 18 inch squares)
  • 9 plastic grocery bags
  • Green ribbon
  • Hot Glue

{Pumpkin Board}

  • I used Styrofoam packaging from my new dishwasher, but you could make something similar by cutting a board or a big piece of cardboard.

1. Lay out an 18 inch square of fabric. Scrunch up 3 plastic bags and place them in the center.

2. Tie two of the corners around each other.

3. Tie the other two corners in a knot.

4. Fold all the fabric tails up in to a point. Leave one out, but roll the other three down in to a “stem.” Wrap the remaining tail around the stem and secure with hot glue.

5. Cover the stems with ribbon, securing with hot glue. Then, add curly vines out of ribbon securing with hot glue.

6. Make a the pumpkin game board by cutting a pumpkin shape out of your styrofoam, board or cardboard.

Prop it up outside and give your pumpkin game a go!

You can even use your pumpkin game in a clear area inside when the weather turns cold because the fabric pumpkins are like pillows and won’t scratch or break anything.

Let me know if you give our fun little pumpkin game a try!

Peach Cobbler

September 19, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

Hi everyone! I am Sachiko from Tea Rose Home. First of all I would love to say thank you to Tara from The Dating Divas who organized this fun blog swap, and to Michelle for having me here today!

In my blog, I share my sewing/craft ideas and tutorials, some recipes and a little bit about my life.

One of the things I love to do is clothes repurposing. My projects are fairly inexpensive. A lot of the times I use items that I already have or a great store find and change them into something better and prettier.

Some people say that my style is feminine. I am guessing it’s because of the ruffle shirts and some other clothes repurposing projects that I have done, but I love all sorts of different styles.

Well, today I am going to share a “Super Easy Peach Cobbler” recipe. You might be thinking “What has that got to do with spicing up a marriage or being romantic with our man?”

Hold your horses; I am getting to that part…

The way to win a man’s heart is through his stomach… I use to think “Oh, come on, it is whole a lot more complicated than that!” But, now that I have been married for a little over 16 years, the saying is not too far off. We all love good food, especially comfort food… it makes us feel… comforted. πŸ™‚ There is so much going on once we step outside. My husband, he goes to work every day to put a roof over our heads and to put food on the table and much more. I know he has good days and not so good days, on days like that I want him to know that our home is a safe haven where he can relax and rest.

It is fun to go out on a date, but my husband and I are so busy with our family life and everything it is hard to coordinate the actual outing. Meanwhile we have many “mini dates”. One of the things we love to do is rent a movie, cuddle up on the couch with a good tasty dessert like this peach cobbler. You can whip up this cobbler in a wink. πŸ™‚

Easy Peach Cobbler (makes 6 servings)

You will need;

1 16oz can of sliced peaches un-drained
1 cup flour
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 cup Milk
2 tsp baking Powder
1/8 tsp salt
1 stick butter

1. In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, cook peaches until boiling.

2. In a medium bowl mix flour, 1 C sugar, milk, baking powder and salt.

3. In a 2 quart casserole dish, melt butter.

4. Pour batter over butter.

5. Add peaches, do not stir.

6. Sprinkle remaining sugar over entire casserole.

7. Bake at 400Β°F for 20-30 min.

8. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream or both…

I tried this recipe with fresh peaches once and it was even better. (It was more work, but if you want to try it, I highly recommend it.)

Now, it is time to snuggle up on the couch with your loved one and enjoy the show!

I’m sure you have all visitied Sachiko’s amazing blog, but if you haven’t, I highly recommend it! She is a fabric mastermind and makes the most beautiful things.

I am over there sharing my recipe for Pumpkin Pie Spice Rice Krispie Treats so jump on over now if you like!

General Conference Packet

September 18, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 20 Comments

It’s that time again! Two weeks from today is the LDS General Conference. It is such an exciting time to get to hear from our leaders, but can sometimes be long for the little ones. Here’s a little general conference packet of sorts to help keep the little ones entertained.I sing “I Love to See the Temple” to my boys every night before bed so I thought making a temple game would be just the ticket. This is so simple and has variations for older kids and younger. For little ones, it can be made in to a file folder game where they match the temples. For older kids, it can be a game of memory where they turn them upside down and try to match.

I made three different versions hoping to catch a lot of the favorites: Utah Temples, Temples Under Construction, and Readers’ Favorites that I requested on our Facebook page. (If you have a fave not on one of these, you can list it there and if I get enough requests I may do more sheets.)

Temples Under Construction

All images are from google images, just type in the temple name (ex: Rexburg Idaho Temple) and they will be on the first page of images.

Just print two of each sheet that you want on card stock, laminate, cut out, and you are good to go! I love that this general conference packet can also go beyond conference as a quiet activity for church meetings.

To print:

  • Right click and save, then open with Windows Photo Gallery which allows you to print choosing your paper size (letter).
  • OR
  • Hold ctrl and click on the picture you want. That will open the large image in a new tab and you can choose to print in the upper left hand corner menu. Do a print preview first and choose the zoom that works best for you. Mine was about 140%.

Be sure to check out our other general conference packet ideas too:
