Feature Friday-Blog Swap with I’m Topsy Turvy

July 4, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

I am SO excited to be here blog swapping at A Little Tipsy!! I’ve enjoy checking out Michelle’s blog and honored she’s asked to swap with lil’ ol’ me! While I’ve been blogging for almost 3 years I’m new to the craft blogging world this year and am having the time of my life! It’s just so much fun!

My name is Ashlee (photo taken by the AMAZING mooshinindy). I have a purple faux hawk, look just like my dad, make BEAUTIFUL babies and I have a little blog called I’m Topsy Turvy!

With 4 young children my crafting has taken a back seat the last few (10) years. But it’s been an unexpected crazy, stressful year and I found that getting back into crafting has been a huge relief and escape for me.

On my blog you’ll find tutorials, holiday crafts, home and family crafts, crocheting, parties, etc.. I bit of everything. I can’t narrow down my interest, I’d get too bored! I tend to get REALLY into a certain medium (cross stitching, crocheting, painting, sewing, etc…) for a few months then drop it and move on to the next thing. Always coming back again!

On the other side of my interests and blogging are the food and cakes! I have recipes, meals, cakes, tips and tricks! I LOVE cooking and baking. I started cooking from scratch when we lived in Japan and I HAD to! And I fell in love with cooking from scratch. Then I got into cakes, with 4 kids I have lots of birthday parties to throw!

And since I can’t stick with just one thing I also started an Etsy store. I know, crazy, right? But this way I get to keep crafting (better than therapy) but don’t have to find places for all of it in my small basement apartment! I have my continuous zipper purses, silhouette jewelry and canvas’s,my new flower headband/clip (as seen at EVO 10) and more!

On to the QUESTIONS from Michelle!!!!

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?

  • THAT is tough… I do so many different things that it’s hard to narrow down. My first thought was my sewing machine, since I’ve been using it a LOT lately, but then I remembered it was in storage for the last 3 years before that… I actually LOVE tools, and have used my drill quite a bit in the past, but haven’t used it too much lately. And of course my handy dandy dremel… I like working with paint too… And of course the Handyman’s secret weapon, duct tape (although I’m more of a hot glue gal!!! In the end??? I think I’ll have to go with scissor! Really I used them for every project, I have them in all sorts of sizes and I can’t think of a project when they haven’t come in handy! (Can you tell I think things out by talking? Feel sorry for my sweet hubby yet?)

What is your favorite 4th of July Tradition?

  • Well… I’m really the wrong blog swapper for THIS weekend. I’ve moved 31 times, 10 in the last 10 years of marriage. SO our annual 4th of July traditions revolve around a recent move or upcoming move. We’ve seen more fireworks at Renaissance festivals (yes, I’m a geek) than for the 4th! Are we just terrible or what! There was ONE year, when we were getting an MBA and actually lived in one place longer than 11 months, that we climbed onto our carport with chairs and TRIED to watch some fireworks, but our HUGE walnut tree got in the way and we almost completely missed them! But THIS year??? We have a great view from the balcony of the park where they do the SLC fireworks. So the HOPE is that we catch them! I MIGHT even through in some themed food this year! oohhhh aaahhhhhh!

How many things have you made out of zippers?

  • Ummmm Not very many, looking around at all the amazing stuff out there. I have my continuous zipper purses, clutch and coin purse, a headband, and some bows! Right now I have some thoughts on a LARGE zipper bow/headband, some earrings, some great shoe ideas and maybe a statement necklace…

Anyway! Thanks so much, Michelle, for the blog swap! I love your great 4th of July ribbon topiary and burlap table runner… I’ll put them in my “to make” box for NEXT year (since it looks like we’re here to stay!!!!)

Isn’t she great?! You have got to meet her in person! She is such a riot and I totally should have had her make me a 30th bday cake! Her cakes are so dang cute! Thanks to Ashley for swappin’ it up and can’t wait for our next GNO!

I pretty much like Ashlee forever and ever despite her craftiness.
