As many of you know one of my goals for 2010 is to go on a planned date once a month with my hubby. Well, I am so excited about today’s feature because it is totally going to help me reach that goal. Our Feature Friday for today is Cher from Love Actually.

What is your favorite crafting tool or secret weapon?
My 12×12 paper cutter. Boring, I know. But, for the life of me, I CANNOT cut straight lines. Luckily this wasn’t a requirement to pass kindergarten….or college.
Once for date night, my husband set up a “craft championship” at home. He set up our living room like a boxing ring, and had all my craft bins all around the “ring”. As I walked in, he announced the competitors for this craft championship (him and I) like an announcer would. We each had certain craft challenges we had to do using certain items (ribbon, scissors, 3 pieces of paper, a button, etc.) within a time limit. It was a well-planned and very creative date…and just that he was willing to create a date around my creative/crafty interests was amazing! Yeah…I think I’ll keep him. 🙂
There’s one thing I know for sure and that is that if something, anything really, is not nourished and developed, it’ll never grow…it’ll never last. Although new moms find it hard to find the time and although money might be tight, it’s so very important to make your marriage a priority (and date nights can play a vital role in this). Think of it this way, once you have children, it’s going to be at least 20 years before all of them are out of the house when you are hubby are once again left alone. If you haven’t taken the time to continually develop that relationship, what could possibly be left after 20 years? Even if it’s once a month or once a week for 10 minutes, babysitter or no babysitter…. there’s no excuse not to date. Not time. Not money. Dating doesn’t always need to involve leaving the house or planning some extravagant activity. Love Actually has lots of fun ideas that are CHEAP, fun, and done right at home. Now, who’s up for a date?!
Theoretically: We take turns every other year. Realistically: I plan for months in advance of doing something uber-creative…but then run out of time…and it defaults to him to think of something uber-creative in less than a week.
Now, let’s dig in to the good stuff! Follow me for some sparks of romantic creativity.
Chinese Date Night
Call me crazy, but eating on the floor with chopstick sounds fun to me!
Love Debit Card
I love surprises and this would be so fun to sneak in to his wallet to see when he would find it.
Lovopoly
We used to play Disney monopoly together all the time. This is a super fun twist!
Gestures of Love
My hubs has been having some uber long days at work lately. Yesterday he went in at 7:00 and got home after 7. I think he would love to find this in his email box.
If you are looking for something a little more sexy and adventurous, here are some of Cher’s fave ideas. Enjoy!
