It has been 8 years and the memory has faded. Some of the kids I work with do not even remember this tragic incident, but I think it is important to keep in our hearts. Not only to remember those brave souls who were on the planes and in the towers, but also those who fought to rescue them and those who fought to rescue us. This tragedy united our country for a time, a unity that has now past. But maybe, just maybe, we can all come together again on this day to remember what our country is about. Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness…Freedom…Independence….not from responsibility for our actions, but from oppression and inequality.

I sat in shock as I watched a second plane come crashing in to the second tower. It was at that point that we all knew this was no accident. That is when the fear and uncertainty started. I was sure of one thing and that was that there was no way I was going to work that night. There was no way I was stepping foot on a plane. Well, neither was anyone else. All planes were grounded immediately. (My sister Jen was also a flight attendant and was grounded in Sun Valley with no extra clothes for days.) I think it is important to remember those moments and how we felt. It is important to remember how we stood united and how we turned back to God. Because one thing was certain, we were going to need his help. I wore a flag pin everyday I flew after that.

Where were you when you heard about the towers?
Can you remember how you felt?

I can’t believe it’s been 8 years! I received a message from my then boyfriend to get over to his house to see what was going on {we didn’t have TV.} I still remember the thinking that things were never going to be the same again. I could not imagine then, how much things will have changed.
Now living on the East Coast, very close to the multiple sites, I have a new perspective on the events and how it has impacted the lives of those around me. Everyone knows someone who was involved. I’m thankful for this country and our freedom and very thankful for all those who fight to defend our freedoms!
We were staying with my parents so that we could all go to the airport to greet my brother as he flew from the MTC in Provo to LA and then on to Guam for his mission. My baby had been up all night, so I had to tell my family I couldn’t make it. My husband came in and told me someone had bombed the airport–I thought LAX–and we ran down to the tv. Terrible day. But the 20 missionaries on my brother’s flight all came back to our house for 2 days! Talk about a weird experience for my brother!
I wrote a post about it you can see it here

This is what I was doing: http://rhodasrascals.blogspot.com/
I remember that I didn’t turn the tv on that morning & when I was driving to work I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought they were joking until I realized that they were speechless because it was real. We had the radio on all day at work & then Brad (my fiance now husband) & I just listened to as many radio broadcasts as we could from NYC…thank goodness for satellite radio. Too bad a lot of people really have forgotten what happened. Thank you for your post. I need to post about it too.
