Laundry Lessons-get pen ink out of clothes

June 22, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 4 Comments

Here are a couple of tips to share for those laundry lovers out there.
http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/4867534/147483-main_Full.jpgTo remove pen ink from clothing, try hairspray. It works! Just spray it right on the stain and wash. Granted, I have only tried this small lines of ink like those, whoops my kid got my pen marks. I have not tried it on big puddles of ink like a pen breaking on you.

I read this somewhere and have been trying it. I have not noticed a big difference, but you can try it. To remove deodorant discoloration from the armpits of clothing try adding a few aspirin tablets to the load.

And here are a couple for laughs…
I don’t think this is what they meant by putting your two cents in. I laughed a little two hard when I saw these two pennies in the bottom of my washer.

Here’s a good reminder for all of us, don’t ride a bike pulling a baby trailer in wide leg jeans. You will get caught! Come to find out those guys who wear those funny things on their pants that make them look way dorky when they ride their bikes do it for a reason. Oh the irony, I got bit for making fun of those guys. Once I untangled my limb from the death grasp of the two wheeled monster I had to peg my pant leg to make it home. AWESOME!

Did you know that laundry is my favorite chore? I seriously have a thing for laundry. I love the sorting. I love hanging it up right from the dryer so it does not wrinkle (I do not love ironing). What’s not to love about a chore that you load in to a machine and it does itself while you sneak in to catch up on “So You Think You Can Dance”? I am dying to make one of these!

(Sorry, I can’t remember where I got this pic. I saved it before I got delicious. If you are out there I am happy to give credit!)

Do you have any stain removal tips (besides Oxiclean, which I love by the way)? I would LOVE to hear them! Leave a comment.

I also have a thing for laundry. I decided years ago to choose one thing that I would be really good at because at the time I thought my house was always a wreck. My favorite laundry item is a bar of Felds Naptha. You usually find it by the bars of soap not by the laundry supplies. It will take out grease, food stains, grass stains, etc. Grandma Barneck taught me about this years ago. I have told lots of friends. I keep it in a cup on top of dryer. I wet the clothing item while the washer is filling up and rub it on the stain. It will often take stains out even after they have dried. Amazing and it only costs about $1.

I absolutely hate laundry! You can stop by and do mine anytime!

My friend Elise told me this great tip and it works! For any stain that has food oil in it, use dish detergent. Rub tons of it in and let it sit for a bit. Wash in cold and you are good to go. She saved my favorite khakis!!!

I don’t love laundry, but I would rather do laundry than dishes any day.
I learned a fun laundry tip…put white distilled vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser of your washer to keep colors from bleeding. It also helps with soap build up on clothes and keeps darks looking new longer. Plus it makes your clothes waaaaay soft. No more spending money on fabric softener or Woolite dark.

I have recently heard of a way to get blood out of your clothes. Just break out some Hydrogen Peroxide and soak until the blood is pretty much gone. When you first put it on fresh blood, it goes all bubbly…pretty cool. After soaking wash in your load with cold water. I have been able to get out stains that are more set in or at least fade then dramatically, but I ususally need to soak it over night.
