Valentine’s Day Valentines {Plane Awesome}

February 9, 2012 By Michelle Barneck 22 Comments

This is my first year making Valentine’s Day Valentines for my son to take to school. Of course we didn’t want anything too girly and they get way too much candy, so I took him to the dollar store to have a look. Luckily, we found six packs of airplanes for a dollar so we settled on a “plane” awesome theme!
Valentine’s Day Valentines: You’re just PLANE awesome!
We pretty much love them and they were so easy!
Plane awesome supplies:
  • Toy airplanes
  • Mini Glue dots
  • Color printer
  • White cardstock
  • Paper cutter
  • Glue (I used what came with the glitter)
  • Martha Stewart heart shaped glitter
We printed four of the following image to a page on white cardstock. That is what worked best with our size planes.

Cut out your cards and glue dot the wheels of the planes to the cards.

Draw three contrails (aka the white trails planes leave) from the back of the plane using your glue. Mix multiple colors of glitter hearts in a bowl. Pour the glitter on the glue and shake the excess glitter hearts back in to the bowl. Let the glue dry.

Voila! You have created a cool kid’s Valentine’s Day valentine that is just plane awesome and may I mention allergy safe! My sons class has gluten, nut and red dye allergies this year. Find a valentine treat that avoids all that, I dare you! Or do the easy road like me and just do a toy instead.

My son is happy to have a cool valentine and I’m happy it was extremely affordable and easy!

Without further adeiu, an ode to the Snowman.
I grew up with a little song called “Once There was a Snowman.” Are you with me here?
Once there was a snowman, snowman, snowman.
Once there was a snowman tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted, melted, melted.
In the sun he melted small, small, small.
Lyrical genius right?
I saw the donuts with the carrot nose and thought an expansion on that idea would be the perfect homage to said song.
{Donut Snowman on a Stick}
CAREFULLY (two donuts were harmed in the making of this snowman) skewer three powder donuts.
Cut a baby carrot in half and put in hole for nose. Add grape Nerd eyes and mouth to look like coal. You my need a dob of frosting or honey to hold them in place.

Add a green apple sour straw as a scarf. Break a toothpick in half and secure the scarf by poking the toothpick through the straw and in to the donut on the top where they overlap and on the bottom of the piece that hangs down the front. You can see the tiny dot of the toothpick on the bottom of the scarf.

Add two red jawbreakers as buttons.
Place in a treat bag with a bow and pass out to your friends.
They will have all sorts of fun singing the song and gobbling him up small, small, small.

General Conference Packet

September 18, 2011 By Michelle Barneck 20 Comments

It’s that time again! Two weeks from today is the LDS General Conference. It is such an exciting time to get to hear from our leaders, but can sometimes be long for the little ones. Here’s a little general conference packet of sorts to help keep the little ones entertained.I sing “I Love to See the Temple” to my boys every night before bed so I thought making a temple game would be just the ticket. This is so simple and has variations for older kids and younger. For little ones, it can be made in to a file folder game where they match the temples. For older kids, it can be a game of memory where they turn them upside down and try to match.

I made three different versions hoping to catch a lot of the favorites: Utah Temples, Temples Under Construction, and Readers’ Favorites that I requested on our Facebook page. (If you have a fave not on one of these, you can list it there and if I get enough requests I may do more sheets.)

Utah Temples

Temples Under Construction

All images are from google images, just type in the temple name (ex: Rexburg Idaho Temple) and they will be on the first page of images.

Just print two of each sheet that you want on card stock, laminate, cut out, and you are good to go! I love that this general conference packet can also go beyond conference as a quiet activity for church meetings.

To print:

  • Right click and save, then open with Windows Photo Gallery which allows you to print choosing your paper size (letter).
  • OR
  • Hold ctrl and click on the picture you want. That will open the large image in a new tab and you can choose to print in the upper left hand corner menu. Do a print preview first and choose the zoom that works best for you. Mine was about 140%.

Be sure to check out our other general conference packet ideas too:
