YW in Excellence Super Values Skit and Slideshow

October 26, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

You asked for the 8 Super Values skit and here it is. The skit was written by two of our Beehives. If you missed the first post about our Superhero themed YW in Excellence be sure to go back and check it out!

As another little bonus, here is what we did for our program. They were printed on gold and red cardstock and left on the tables. We used the blank shield from the first post and just filled in the YW in Excellence outline. Super simple!

We had the most amazing super hero movie/slideshow that I wish I could share. It had amazing graphics and awesome music put together by a professional composer who also happens to be in our Bishopric and married to our YW President, but it involved lots of pics of the girls and their names so I thought it would be a privacy issue to post it.

Here is the text from it so you can get the idea. Each line is a new “slide”

The World (Pics of darkness and lightning)
Dark
Dangerous
Deceptive
Many search for hope
for light
in a world of darkness
Are there heroes in our day?
Do you know where your cape is? (pic of cape)
It’s time to put it on
Be strong and of a good courage; (pics of heavens)
Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
For the Lord thy God is with thee…
withersoever thou goest
Joshua 1:9
These are the heroes
(pics of the girls from the last year, ending with each of those who got their young womanhood recognition)
(a few pics of a big city)
The hero is within you (pic of red telephone booth & superman theme playing)
Your cape is waiting
Rise above
Now is the time
Be strong and of a good courage
for the Lord thy God is with thee
withersoever thou goest
(showed each of the girls names one at a time)
(a few pics of Christ’s life)
Heroes needed
One size fits all (pic of a bunch of homemade capes that looked like ours)

Funny that I googled to find the image and it came from my friend Vanessa’s blog.

This in no way does the movie justice, but I had to share something from it. It added so much to the evening!

Wish I had pics to share, but of course I forgot my camera. What kind of a blogger am I?! Let me know if you use this theme or come up with additions of your own. I would love to hear your ideas!

YW in Excellence

October 13, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 20 Comments

This year for YW in Excellence we decided to go with a Superhero theme. We liked how it coordinated with the “Be Strong and of a good courage” mutual theme and also went a long with the “For strength of youth.”

Each girl will be wearing a cape in a value color. We are lucky enough to have 24 small tablecloths in value colors so we are just going to pin them on and add a value shield to the back with double sided tape. Each girl got their value shield in advance to decorate however they wanted. We just printed them on cardstock.

Click on the individual shields to make them large to print.

We are going to start with a “soup”er dinner. We will be serving the soup out of large pumpkins with shields carved in them. Behind the serving table we will have a banner with each girl’s picture that reads “Our Superheros.” On each seating table, there will be a ring of rolls made in a bundt pan with salad supreme on them to keep with the fall decor.

We will also have display tables for people to peruse with shields where each girl wrote about their favorite personal progress project from the year. We gave them blank cardstock shields a couple of weeks in advance to write on.

After dinner we will have the 8 Supervalues skit that my Beehives wrote and will perform. I will try to get an electronic copy of this to post.

At this point in the program, the girls will stand one at a time wearing their value cape and say “I show my strength and courage through the power of (whatever value they chose).” They will then share an experience from that year that helped them demonstrate or develop that value.

We were then going to have the bishop say a few words and close with the girls reciting the YW theme, but in a different way. We practiced saying it slower and with great emphasis on certain words. We also had an individual girl say each value, but came back together on “and Virtue.”

italics=slow
bold=with emphasis

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him.
We will “stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things,
and in all places” as we strive to live
the Young Women values, which are:
Faith
Divine Nature
Individual Worth
Knowledge
Choice and Accountability
Good Works
Integrity
and Virtue.
We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values,
we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants,
receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation.

I think we may also send each girl home with a CTR ring as a take home.

Feel free to use any of these ideas for your YW in Excellence!

*Update: I got such a positive response and so many requests that I did a second post on our YW in Excellence including the skit and super hero slideshow.

October Visiting Teaching Handout

October 1, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 4 Comments

This month there is not a Visiting Teaching Message. We are to choose excerpts from the special Temples issue of the Ensign. I chose these quotes for my October visiting teaching handout from President Thomas S. Monson’s talk. I also used the photo from the Ensign cover. I am really excited to have this temple issue to use as reference for lessons and FHE in the future!

Feel free to print the visiting teaching handout and use as you like.

I used Everyday Mom Ideas “Just My Type” free digiscrap kit to make the handout.

Who’s excited for general conference? Be sure to check out my General Conference Activity, Temple Sewing card and first presidency coloring page if you need some activities for the kiddos!

General Conference Activity

September 25, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 13 Comments

It’s that time again! LDS General Conference is almost here and I am always looking for things to entertain the kids. Here is a fall themed coloring page I made for an easy printable General Conference Activity. Who doesn’t love a little pumpin this time of year?!

I love to have coloring pages that include words to listen for during general conference. It is easy to color for my little pre-readers, but also has something a little more challenging for the kids who can read. I find it helps them listen to the talks and pick out the topics discussed during conference.

Here are some more great General Conference activites:
