Cereal Treat Sunday-Cheerio Treats

September 5, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 9 Comments

Welcome to the second installment of Cereal Treat Sunday. This week we are making Cheerio Treats. I wish they had a better, more creative name. Peanut Buttery Piles of O’s, okay, that’s horrible, let’s stick with Cheerio Treats.

We are starting out with some super simple cereal treats for those who may be beginners in the cereal treat arena. 😉 This one is nearly fool proof with only 5 ingredients.

Warning: If you have a peanut allergy steer clear of this one!

Cheerio Treats

1 Cup Corn Syrup
1 Cup Sugar
Cook in sauce pan until boiling. Then allow to boil for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat.

Then add:
1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Blend until peanut butter is melted and mixture is smooth. Pour over 5 cups Cheerios and mix until well coated. Drop by spoonfuls on to wax paper and let cool.

*Insider’s tip: to measure sticky items like corn syrup and peanut butter easily, coat the measuring cup with a little cooking spray before using.

Voila, you are a Cheerio treat chef. Now go enjoy your peanut buttery piles of O’s and we’ll see you next week for another episode of Cereal Treat Sunday!

Recipe originally from Good Things Utah Guest Host Laura Powell

Better Than Turtle Cake Recipe

September 2, 2010 By Michelle Barneck 6 Comments

It’s known by many names, Better Than Anything Cake, Better Than Sex Cake, Better Than (Insert word here) Cake. Well, we wanted to make that cake, but were missing some key ingredients so we switched it up and made a Turtle Cake. You know, Chocolate, Pecan, and Caramel deliciousness.

Better Than Turtle Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 Chocolate Cake Mix (& ingredients needed on the box)
  • 1 (14 oz) Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1-2 Cups Caramel Topping
  • 1 Cup Chopped Pecans
  • Whipped Cream

Make cake as directed on box. Poke top of warm cake every inch with handle of wooden spoon. Drizzle sweetened condensed milk over top of cake. Let stand until milk is absorbed. Drizzle with caramel topping. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen cake. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or until chilled. Top with dollop of whipped cream. ENJOY!

Store in refrigerator.
