Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

October 28, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 9 Comments

Here’s a fun little Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cupcake recipe that is pretty darn healthy (I think it’s like 1 weight watchers point, no I am not on Weight Watchers, but my former co-workers who were loved these) and ridiculously easy! Oh, and did I mention yummy! My husbands co-workers (aka computer geeks) loved these!

Ingredients:
1 box spice cake
1 small can Pumpkin
1/2 bag of chocolate chips

Mix it up, put in cups and bake for 22 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. This will make about 20ish pumpkin cupcakes depending on how big you make them.
Easy peasy. Seriously, if you mess this one up I don’t know what to tell you!

I put them in paper cups, but also borrowed this awesome pumpkin shaped pan from my sis. I think she may have purchased it at Ikea?

I added a little green frosting swirl to the pumpkin shaped ones. I did not have an fall themed plated so I used two of the generic ones to make a little container and drew a pumpkin on top with markers.

Hmmm. I gave them all away. Maybe I need to make more. 🙂

Mirror Makeover

October 27, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 8 Comments

Mirror, mirror on the wall who did the spookiest mirror makeover of all? I found this Golden beauty at a garage sale for a whole 50 cents. Yes, you read it right, 50 cents! Was the seller blind to its fabulous character? Apparently. I had grand plans to paint it some wild color, but that took a backseat to the Halloween spirit oozing from it. We had to take a detour to a dark place.

That made great strides, but it still needed a little something to push it over the edge. Enter the spider webs and a little friend my little one and I made (tutorial for spider) and it has just the right sense of “look in to me and you may see someone else in the mirror with you.” It reminds me of the Haunted mansion at Disneyland. Where we get to go next month. Yay!!!

Pumpkin Topiary

October 19, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 14 Comments

I loved the idea of a pumpkin topiary so I kept an eye out for a big urn for a little price. I was lucky enough to find this one for $1 at a garage sale a couple weekends ago. The funny thing is I was carrying around a plant so another garage saler (don’t you love how I make up words) pointed it out to me. How nice is that! Thank you mystery lady!

Naturally, I was not a big fan of the strange tan/green motif so I painted the creases with brown to add some dimension and then went over the whole thing with a couple of coats of heirloom white.

Then, it was off to the pumpkin patch for those three perfect pumpkin stackers. The bottom pumpkin was just the right size and the owners goat had chewed off the stem so it was perfect! I broke the middle one’s stem off with my bare hands only to have a giant ear wig jump out at me. Those things creep me out!!! I promptly killed it and proceeded with the stacking.

I really liked the natural look, so I attached a pack of silk leaves from the Dollar Tree with double sided sticky tape and added a raffia bow. you could use piles of real leaves if you are lucky enough to have them. Our trees have not started shedding quite yet.

And here she is in all her harvest glory! I love my cute little pumpkin topiary! Still haven’t gotten my Halloween decorations out. 🙂 he he

I found the original inspiration idea from Grams via Ucreate.

I know, the palm tree welcome mat has got to go. I didn’t sweep, because hey it’s fall. Leaves on the porch is how it is supposed to be. And yes, that is sidewalk chalk on the porch. The rain can’t seem to reach it to wash it away. My little artist is “set in stone.”

Oh dear, it is 10:30 AM and I just heard a stool being dragged and “MMM cake, mmmm brownies!” coming from the kitchen. The pan of brownies I left on the counter top are in danger!

**Update:this is what I found in the kitchen.

At least he used a spoon. Ha! You’re caught!

Easy Spider Craft

October 15, 2009 By Michelle Barneck 3 Comments

I wanted to do a little craft that my little guy could play with. I also needed a little something for my spooky banner. I thought a spider might be easy and I was right!

All you need is:

  • Chenille type yarn
  • Furry yarn
  • Scissors

I got my yarn at Big Lots for a total $3.

  • Start by cutting 4 equal length pieces of the Chenille yarn. (Big spider-6 inches, Small spider-4 inches)
  • Grab all the pieces and tie them all in a knot.
  • For the big spider, wrap the knot with chenille yard until it looks like a round body and tuck the end piece in. For the small spider, skip this step.
  • Wrap the knot/body with the furry yarn until desired furriness and then wrap then end around itself and pull tight. This will make the web string.
That’s it! Your ready to play with your creepy new spider. Make a bunch and hang them around the house from furniture and banners for a spooky touch!

I think it adds a nice touch to my banner.

This is what the small spider looks like. A bit more realistic.

I think he approves of the spider craft!
