My Windows Phone #MeetYours

Christmas came a little early at our house. My Windows phone arrived and I didn't even get the chance to open it. My husband was so excited he just couldn't wait. I had to steal it away before he started pinning his favorites. After all it is MY windows phone.

I got right to setting it up just right for me. Wanna know all the cool things I found out?!
  • It takes all your friends profiles from contacts, facebook, twitter, etc and merges them all in to one "people" place. All of their info is right there in one spot whether I want to talk or tag them they are just a tap away! You can also create specific groups like family which is awesome.
  • You can post to your facebook and twitter all from one spot. It keeps track of all my accounts under the "me" tile. See how I have 102 notifications in the pic below, that would drive my husband batty.

  • You can customize your start screen with anything you want including live updates on game scores, celeb gossip, etc. With all my social media connections for friends and myself in two tabs that left a lot of room for quick tiles to other things like:
    • A lot of basics that I use all the time like: weather, texting, camera, email, web, calendar, map.
    • Photo reel (it's scrolling through a pic of the lights on Temple Square) for a slideshow of my favorite pictures.
    • Pinspiration which is an app for Pinterest
    • Quick tiles for my husband (swords) and sister
    • Gospel library which is a digital version of all my scriptures and church manuals
  • You can also customize the size, location and color of the tiles. Mine tiles came red and I swapped for a nice blue. I made my husband's tile huge not only to boost his ego, but so I can easily dial him when driving.
  • The screen is huge! I mean look at all the stuff that fits on there! The big tiles are about an inch square.
So far I am like a kid in a candy store changing sizes and colors and rearranging tiles. It's like designing a new room without having to move furniture or ending up with paint in your hair!

Saltine Toffee

Be will not be able to put this down! I took dinner to a friend with this for dessert and she said she hid it from her kids so she could eat it all. It's that good. And the best part? It is so fast and sooo easy! Perfect for when you need a last minute gift or treat to take to a party.

A huge thanks to my friend Kara for sharing and getting me hooked on this recipe!

1- 1 1/2 sleeves of saltine crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups chocolate chips
3/4 cup sliced almonds or chopped pecans, toasted

Line a 15×10" jelly roll pan with foil. Spray with non-stick spray. Arrange saltines in a single layer over the bottom of the pan. Combine butter and brown sugar in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Boil for 3 minutes. Pour over the saltines and spread evenly. Bake at 400° for 6 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let sit for a few minutes until the chocolate melts, then spread it over the top. Sprinkle with nuts. Cool completely and break into pieces. It could take a few hours, so you can put it in fridge to speed things up.

What I Wish I'd Known as a First Time Mom

I in no way claim to be the perfect mother. In fact if there is one thing you learn being a mother it is that there are no perfect mothers. You can not do it all. Going in with realistic expectations is imperative. Here are a few of the things I have learned in my 5 years that I wish I would have known as a first time mom.

Prepping for baby:
  • Keep a diaper handy in case your water breaks at home or while you are out. Once it starts it doesn't stop, it's like one continuous trickle. I kid you not, this happened to me with both kids and on my second I borrowed one of my sons diapers. It kept me and my car perfectly dry. Way better than walking in dripping wet wrapped in a towel!!
  • You don't need everything they put on all those prepping for baby lists. Just get what seems right to you. I never really used my C shaped pillow and baby robes, but needed way more burp clothes (the ones made from cloth diapers are the best!!). Every baby and family is different.
  • Take your own blanket and pillow. It might seem over the top, but you'll be glad you did especially if you end up staying multiple days.
  • If you end up staying multiple nights request a room away from the ice maker, nurse station, etc so you can rest quietly.
  • You are not a bad mother if you send the baby to the nursery for a while so you can rest. You can not care for your little one if you are a zombie.
At Home:
  • Everyone will have advice. Take what works for you and leave what doesn't. You don't have to mother exactly how your mother or mother-in-law or friend does.
  • Let people help you. It will be a blessing to them and to you.
  • Sleep when you can. Nap when they nap. You might be tempted to get things done, but just like a car, your body can't run on empty.
  • Asking people wash their hands before holding your newborn is fine.
  • If all you accomplish in a day is having a shower, bravo! Just enjoy the time with your tiny one. It does not last long.
What do you wish you had known as a first time mom?

Pirate Mickey

I had the perfect idea for a Disneyland shirt for boys, it would be Mickey wearing a pirate bandana. The perfect combination of Disney and boy. I was so excited to get started and even more excited when I saw my adorable friend Amy from Positively Splendid had the same idea and put it together with a tutorial! Awesome! That made it super easy for me!

The applique process for the pirate Mickey was not as overwhelming as I imagined. I absolutely adore how they turned out and also have to give a huge thanks to my friend Tami for doing the sewing for me since my machine was under the weather that week!

Wednesdays through January

If you like the Pirate Mickey shirt, you may want to see our Mickey Shirts, Mike Wazowski Shirt or Disney Ad Shirts.

North Pole Express

Have you ever ridden the North Pole Express run by Heber Valley Railroad? We got to a few days ago and had a lot of fun.

We boarded the train and got going along. Santa's helper was on the mic leading us in Christmas carols and sharing stories. The elves Holly and Jolly handed out Mrs. Claus special cookies and hot chocolate. The elves were really fun and dances with my kiddos in the aisle. After a while we spotted Santa! He climbed aboard to visit all the kids and give them a little jingle bell. Santa was great! He took his time with each family and was fabulous with my kids. We headed back and Mrs. Claus came by for a visit. My little ones thought it was great!

Here are my tips if you have the chance to go...

  • Tickets are highly discounted on off peak days.
  • Arrive at least a half hour early to pick up your tickets, use the restroom (there isn't one on the train) and get in line for your train car.
  • Car seats and strollers are not allowed on trains so bring a sling or be prepped to hold babies.
  • Take pictures before you leave if you are on the early train to make best use of the light.
  • The benches turn around if you push on them so you can have two facing each other.
  • If you stand up when Santa comes by, Santa can sit by your kids and it is easier to get good pictures.
  • If you have family members who are sound sensitive, bring ear plugs. A train car full of kids with jingle bells is really loud.
Thanks Heber Valley Railroad for a fun ride!

Disclosure: We were provided tickets for the North Pole Express, the opinions are all mine.

Magnetic Paper Dolls

Remember that time when I flew to Arkansas to share a really fun project on KATV for Cricut? Well, I am finally posting the how-to for those super cute paper dolls. They are easy to put together using the Cricut Mini and the possibilities are endless with patterns, colors and textures to mix and match.

Are they not adorable? Did you spot the blogger bear? :)

Magnetic Paper Dolls

1. Start off by finding a tin you like. This is a great way to use a thrifted or holiday cookie tin. I love these rectangle game tins you can find for $1 at the thrift store. Give it a couple of coats of spray paint and let dry completely.

2. Now cut your base image out of vinyl and place it slightly below center on the tin.
  • Panda Bear - In the free Cricut Craft Room software, drag Teddy Bear Parade Cartridge image TddyBear on to the mat. Click "hide contour" and click all of the lines, except the eyes, within the bear outline. Add an oval for the nose. Cut in white vinyl. Then cut just the bear outline hiding the eyes and nose in black vinyl. Trim the arms, legs and ears from the white bear and layer it on top of the black.
  • Snowman - In the free Cricut Craft Room software, drag Snow Friends Cartridge image Snowman1 on to the mat. Click "hide contour" and click all of the lines within the snowman outline so it will just cut a blank snowman body outline. There are multiple faces to choose from. I added some coal eyes and a carrot nose in vinyl. I added it after the pics, but you can see it in the news clip.

3. Use the coordinating outfits on each cartridge to create outfits for your "paper dolls." Just keep the default height (at the bottom of the craft room screen by the image selection window) the same as the dolls for all the clothes and they will fit just right.

I loved including papers with different patterns and textures like sparkle and denim (DYK the cricut cuts fabric?). We even made a cute Santa outfit that I didn't get a picture of, but it is in the news segment.

4. Make them magnetic paper dolls by cutting the most basic layer of each outfit image in the magnet material. I used the deep cut blade with Speed 3, Pressure 5, Depth 6, and 4 cuts which worked beautifully. Then, just peel off the white vinyl backing and use the existing adhesive to stick the clothes to the magnet pieces.

5. Store all the pieces inside the tin for a fun gift or great quiet activity for the kiddos in the car or at church. These two tins are under my tree for two lucky little ones.

What outfit was your favorite?
If you could choose anything, what outfits would you make for paper dolls?

10 amazing Blogger's have come together to give away over $1100.00 in prizes!!

Christmas Wish List Giveaway by

This year for Christmas we thought it would be fun to GIVEAWAY something from each of our Christmas Wish List’s, AND here's the really exciting part...

A Grand Prize valued at over $600.00!! A Blend Tec Total Blender with 2 jars; the Wildside (extra large) and the Fourside (normal) PLUS the Fresh Blends Cookbook and a special 10 year warranty! CAN you believe it?! We're so excited! Here's a little look at what each of our AMAZING blogger’s are giving away...

'On my Christmas Wish List this year is a gift card to the GAP... I love their clothes. The GAP is fun but not too trendy and I especially LOVE it when I find a good sale!! I'm sharing a $50.00 gift card so you can find a really fun item or maybe even catch the After Christmas Sales to find great prices in this fabulous store! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!'

Mariel of Or so she says
‘I love finding new perfumes that I love! But, of course I like to have the stamp-of-approval from my husband, since he’s the one who has to (I mean, GETS to) smell me. So, I usually let him pick them out. Trouble is, he has a phobia of the sales people at perfume counters, which I totally get. So, needless to say, I usually wear the same perfume for years and years. Anyway, this year I’m up for a new smell…it’s time to let Vanilla Fields rest. Just kidding! Remember that one?? I think I was in high school when it was the thing. But, seriously…I want something new, so I thought this perfume sampler from Sephora would be PERFECT. Get this: you get a whole slew of samples from the most popular perfumes and THEN once you try them and find one you like, you can use the included gift certificate to redeem at a Sephora store for a full-size bottle of your favorite scent from the package. I love that! It would be fun to try them all, the hubs would appreciate avoiding the perfume counters, and I would end up with a new scent that I really love.’

'What I want for Christmas: I fell in love with this vintage bottle/carrier when I saw it. It can be filled with home decor, I've even seen it as a hot cocoa bar with 3 main ingredients in each bottle. Great for parties, photo prop, and home decor! Also love anything with chalkboard, and this vintage board, I fell in love with!'

The Sister's of Six Sister's Stuff
'There is something about being able to pick out your own perfect gift - and where better than Kohl's!? Whether you put it toward a great pair of boots, a new dress, home decor, or the awesome post-Christmas sales, you're sure to find something you'll love!'

'Well, recently I saw these cute inside out bowls, they are so fun! I think that they are super cute and would be a great addition to anyone's kitchenware. There are so many cute things over at Anthropology. The winner of my giveaway will get $50.00 to spend on whatever they want!! So go ahead and pick out something you've been wishing for this Christmas.'

Michelle of A Little Tipsy
'The item on my list is a wallet from Ameroonie Designs. They are handmade with laminated cotton and other beautiful fabrics so they hold up without sacrificing design. I love the fun color and pattern combinations! I am excited to give away two; one for you and one for a friend!'

Leigh Anne of Your Homebased Mom
'The item on my wish list is the Urban Decay Naked Eye Palette. It has actually been on my wishlist for a couple of years now but I keep forgetting to tell anyone! Maybe I'll get lucky this year and one of my family will see this and buy it for me. I get a little boring with my make up and use the same 3 colors over and over again. The palette contains 12 gorgeous colors that are perfect for everyone! A fun way to spruce up your makeup and have fun and play too!'

Suzanne of You Made That?
'I love to walk through Kohl's kitchen department, I end up wanting all kinds of things like Fiesta ware dishes, to table clothes and kitchen gadgets, so that is why a giftcard from Kohl's is on my wishlist and why I'm giving away a $50.00 gift card too!'

'I love all of the Paula Deen stoneware. This particular covered casserole dish caught my eye because of the darling scalloped edge and the beautiful color. I have also wanted to purchase her beautiful cutting board. I love that it has measurements for pie crusts, as well as a 14 inch ruler embedded right in the board. I'm always looking for a little extra guidance! This cutting board might be just the thing I need! I hope you love it too!'

'I don’t know about you, but my husband always asks what I want for Christmas. He tells me I am impossible to shop for, so I tell him to get me my favorite thing. A gift card! (Boring? Maybe. But practical (and exciting to me…YES!) One of my favorite stores to peruse around is Target. I cannot leave there without spending $50 on anything from home decor to kitchen tools, clothes for my kids or thank you cards to keep in my purse, so today I will give you one of my favorite things..a shopping day at Target with a $50 gift card. Have fun!'
