How many times have you come home to an empty house to find that someone left the lights on? (lets not talk about it) Do you leave your toaster plugged in all the time?(yes.)
The simple act of unplugging electronics when you aren´t using them not only reduces energy, but could save you as much as 10 percent on your electric bill (WOW)! With Earth Day´s 40th anniversary on Thursday, April 22nd fast approaching, Cascadian Farm wants you to join the celebration by pledging to follow a few eco-friendly tips on Facebook. Choose from eight different pledges, ranging from reusing clothes to reducing your speed while driving on the highway, and find the one that fits your lifestyle. For each person that signs a pledge now through May 31, 2010, Cascadian Farm will donate $1, up to $40,000, to the Organic Farming Research Foundation, which fosters the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. ![]() I signed the Food Planner Pledge where you check your fridge to see what you have and what you need before going to the grocery store to reduce food waste. There were multiple pledges that I either follow or plan to. (Not the reducing speed, the speed limit is 75 mph some places in UT and I just can't bring myself to 55.) Cascadian Farms is also letting us give away a "Live Green Together" prize pack that includes Cascadian Farm cereals and granola bars, including: Fruitful O´s cereal, Cinnamon Crunch cereal, Chocolate Chip Chewy granola bars, Dark Chocolate Almond Granola, (doesn't that sound delicious?!) Dark Chocolate Almond granola bars, Oats & Honey granola, and an eco-friendly grocery bag (I adore these bags!). ![]()

So I was just walking through the 3rd floor at my office and saw a guy with your blog up on one screen and editing the image on his other screen. So I stopped and visited with your husband for a bit. Very funny small world.
Love your blog and your VT handouts.
Hope to meet you at CBC in May.
I will be remembering my reusable bags BEFORE I'm in the checkout line at the grocery store! And I'm going to start buying boxes of produce once a week or so from Green Bee Produce to cut down on my trips to the grocery store (reducing the food waste in our family).
I signed the same one as you--the food waste pledge. I'm going to plan better!
I will turn off lights when I leave a room - I am terrible about forgetting to do that! I also want to waste less and recycle more.
jkasparbauer@gmail.com
I will start unplugging things that are not currently in use (cell phone chargers, lamps, etc)
mangelson@msn.com
I will unplug my cell phone charger after using it. :)

I will switch from plastic bags to reusable fabric bags.

I signed up on Facebook for Reusing Old Clothes, but I'm going to go as far as recycling and reusing anything that can be repurposed or passed on to someone else to use. I'm also adding to it in that I'm going to try to shop thrift stores more simply to keep new products from needing to be made by using what is already here. Thanks for the extra boost to get us thinking for Earth Day and every day!
I follow A Little Tipsy! My mom called me Grace growing up because I'm a little tipsy myself. Hehe.

this is great. thanks for passing along the pledge!
We will remember to bring our reusable grocery bags to the store with us!

I am trying really hard to use canvas bags when I go to the grocery store. Old habits die hard, but I'm trying!

Going to get reusable bags!
Am going to try to remember to bring the reusable bags I own to the store-- plastic bags have been multiplying like rabbits lately in this house!

I have made lots of changes over the last 5 years. This week I'll be working more on my garden so that I can grow lots of yummy vegetables.

I try to take baby steps here and there. I am going to pledge turn off my thermostat COMPLETELY until June. I'll use fans before then.
I am hosting a Green Party this weekend and my guests will learn how to make green home cleaners. I have also started shopping with recycled tote bags.
We are growing a few things in a very small garden. The remainder of our summer veggies come from local farmers instead of the grocery store.
Following along.....

I signed the food waste one... we've been trying to do a lot better with planning and now only go to the market once a week (before it was a trip almost every afternoon! yikes it was expensive!). Still I find that things are hiding out in my fridge and freezer! Gonna work to organize better! Yay being green!
new to following, love the stuff. thanks for doing it :0)

One more time... Got the hubs to sign too. He's going to try and unplug... so many gadgets, so many places... agh! he seemed pretty serious though but was in a hurry to get back to his tivo'd deadliest catch haha ;)
kryssie@rocksteadyinc.com
Thanks for the tips. I didn't realize that appliances used electricity when they weren't being used. I am unplugging. We use canvas bags when we remember, we'll try harder.

I am riding my bike to the store to shop tonight instead of driving.
I took the pledge to recycle used clothes more.
I'll be using my grocery tote instead of the plastic bags from the supermarket
I'll be using my stainless steel water bottle - no more buying bottled water

We have always tried to live green, reusing anything and everything, gardening, recycling,
etc. I still struggle with remembering to bring my totes into the stores! So I am going to put extra effort into getting those totes working more
remember to take my reusable bags to the grocery store, go to the local farmers markets, support our farmers.
recycle as much as possible, including vegetable waste.
and lastly use my stainless steel flask for water and not buy plastic bottles of water

I am starting a compost bin with my son lindemann11@yahoo.com
We already do some stuff like not using plastic baggies (so easy! everyone should do it.), use reusable bags every shopping trip, don't turn lights on until after dark, recycle everything possible, etc...but the thing we need to get better at is unplugging things when we're not using them. The only things we're really good at that with now is the toaster and electric tea kettle...we need to work on it! So that is the one I signed.
Once we move into our new apartment I want to start a under the sink compost bin! That's going to be my Earth Day celebration :)
I have become a follower of you!
I just found your blog and became a follower! Great giveaway!!
My family has reduced our plastic usage, and we have dramatically reduced our use of paper towels as well as replacing paper napkins with cloth napkins. Thank you!
savinghubsmoney@aol.com
We planted a new blueberry bush, and started a bunch of flower seeds. We also took a walk down to the road to pick up trash and recyclables. Thanks for the chance!
